Persil Pop-up

Is anyone else finding this extremely annoying? (Sorry Mumsnet ). I thought I couldn't log on tonight, it took me a while to realise I had to wait for the girl to start running over to one of the stars before it would accept me pressing the cancel button (perhaps this is just me). Just concerned it may put off new users if they can't work out how to get rid of it.

Since the persil pop-up has arrives the text on my screen jumps down every time I look for messages or active conversations. Agree it is extremely annoying. Suppose we will have to live with it if it generates income but i agree it will be off putting to newcomers.

debbied · 10/03/2003 00:17

yes this driving me crazy im sitting at work trying to have a nose and this thing keeps popping out ay me please go away

Ghosty · 10/03/2003 00:18

Yup ... I have just had a 10 minute argument with my computer as it said suddenly that it needed to 'debug' and wouldn't let me cancel - all due to the Persil pop up ...
Drove me mad ...
Sorry Mumsnet, but any chance of getting rid of it?

SoupDragon · 10/03/2003 07:54

Bookmark the "active conversations" page of mumsnet and you won't see the pop up unless you go elsewhere on the site.

I have it bookmarked and have never seen a pop up on Mumsnet

WideWebWitch · 10/03/2003 08:42

Mears, my screen jumps too and it is very annoying, I agree. I always come straight into active conversations too.

mears · 10/03/2003 09:15

Has it gone? Is it here only at certain times of the day? My screen is fine this morning.

SueW · 10/03/2003 09:17

It was here when I logged on a few minsutes ago. I don't like these new style pop-ups on any sites tbh, cos it takes a little longer than usual to find out how to close them - no 'x' in the corner.

And I use Persil anyway!!

justiner · 10/03/2003 11:31

Hi all,
Sorry you are finding this a pain. It is bringing in some (much-needed, as you know, revenue). Tech has promised to look at it this evening and cap the number of times it appears per user, so it should be less annoying. Hope that's OK?
Justine

I did have a look at what Persil had to say, honestly! No objections at all to anything that brings in some money for Mumsnet but glad to hear that the number of times we see it will be capped. Thank you!

Hello,
We've added a cap to this now so you should see it at most once per visit to the board.

Tech

Screen is fine tonight. No more jumping about. Thanks.

Demented · 10/03/2003 23:43

Loads better! Thanks!

I hadn't seen this popup before but I used search earlier today and the popup itself, and bits relating to it, were plastered across the search boxes - it wouldn't let me close it, I had to use the other button (reply?) and then use my back button after the bigger Persil page had come up.
Is this just my PC?

sml2 · 13/03/2003 13:48

I actually LIKE the Persil popup! I've only just seen it because it doesn't seem to pop up when I enter the chat boards via my normal route.

Marina · 13/03/2003 13:50

No, I had this problem last night on my home PC too, janh. Had to close and reopen page to clear it.

Jaybee · 13/03/2003 14:25

Glad this is not just me - it is really annoying - if it is now to be capped it is not such a problem - took me a while to realise that I had to wait until the girl started running - meantime lots of frustrated mouse clicking on the cancel button until my PC died on me. Personally, I hate sites with constant pop ups and this is one of the many advantages of Mumsnet.

WideWebWitch · 13/03/2003 23:04

Janh, no, same happens to me if I try to search. Seems to work if you use the back button on your browser (once persil pop up plasters itself everywhere) and then go back to search, presumably because it's been capped and it knows you've seen it. Screen isn't jumping any more though, so thanks tech.

tech · 13/03/2003 23:33

Yes, sorry, it wasn't meant to show up on the search page but it does. We'll fix that at the weekend. WWW is right about clicking back. Also, if you just let it display itself, then click the refresh button in your browser, it will disappear and the page displays normally.

I've heard that clicking close on the popup before it has time to fully draw itself causes a problem for some people. There's little we can do about this unfortunately as we didn't write it.

Regards,
Tech

PamT · 14/03/2003 06:57

I can't close the persil pop up either but if I use the back button and then go back to talk it clears it.

Clarinet60 · 17/03/2003 15:03

tech, i can't close it either. When i close it it closes down for a moment, then pops up again and everything wobbles thereafter. Any chance of getting rid of it before it gets rid of us?

Jaybee · 18/03/2003 15:30

This is driving me mad - everytime I click onto 'talk' it pops up and I am sure that girl is taking longer to run just to annoy me - I DON'T WANT TO BUY PERSIL and even if I was considering it, this pop up is winding me up enough to never want to see Persil again!!!
