I am having funny messages whenever I try and load a windows application.

My computer tries to install "something" but it does not say what - and then it asks me to load my Microsoft Office XP Professional CD. I do but still it cannot find what it's looking for.

It finally asks me to find the PRORET.MSI file and then I can install properly.

But I cannot find where I can get this from .....

I have run a viruse checker which says that my system is clean ....

Any ideas - Oh wise ones ?
Thanks

Try the XP office CD apparently it is on that.
Good luck.

It might be in a cab file - can you find anything called proret (without the .msi bit)?

sorry SP - what's a CAB file ??

a cab file is a kind of zip/archive file (filename.cab) - each cab file may contain lots of other files. File search should still find the file if it's inside, but it was a thought.

Are the disks you have the same version of office that you have installed? Has it ever run properly?

I did a search on google and even though it asks for the operating system but those that installed the office it seemed to work either that or they had to rebuild their pc's. It seemed to co-incide with installing service packs - is this what happened?

SenoraPostrophe · 16/03/2005 20:56

is it xp home and service pack 2 by any chance?
