question for anyone living in Oz

hi

I want to order a DVD for a friend who lives in Oz (Christmas pressie). Have 2 questions:

1.Are Ozzie DVD player compatible with American or English DVDs?

2.Is there a reputable Amazon-like site in Oz that I can order it from (am thinking that if I order it from inside Australia then I'll avoid the hefty delivery charge that I would get if I ordered from a .com or .co.uk site

thanks

Hi, I'm pretty sure that Oz dvds ARE NOT compatible with UK ones. I think we are the same as the rest of Asia - region 4 (?). So unless they have a multi-region dvd player you are better off buying over here.

I expect there are better sites but you could try these . . .

try this place

or here

this is good, like the bbc

You can play an UK DVD on a Australian player, but not a Australian DVD on a UK player.

We have both, so I can testify to this. And yes, we are region 4.

Fishpond

Or Amazon do not del to Oz, but can be expensive.

Or Amazon do NOW del

Ah, so that's why we needed a new player sandcastles . . . I get confused.

sandcastles · 13/11/2008 03:56

Yes, quite possibly CS!

Poor dh gets confused as to what DVD goes in what player & what chanel to use too..

Our UK DVD is a DVD/video combi, so we need them both hooked up, with the dvd players, the Foxtel box & the PS2, he has a real hard time, bless him!

thanks all - the Australian sites dont have the DVD I'm lookin for. Know of any other big region 4 DVD sites - or is sandcastles right and one from the uk will definately work?

Ones from the UK work in our Australian DVD player, I promise!

We brought some of dd's UK ones over in our hand luggage when we emigrated here, as we thought it would make it more 'homely' for her & she wouldn't have to wait weeks to watch her fav shows!

ILs didn't have a DVD player, so we brought a cheapie & the DVDs work no problem.

It depends if your DVD player is set up to play multi region DVDs. If it is then UK ones will work in Aus. If not then they wont. They could always watch it on their computer if their DVD player wont work. Have you tried looking for DVDs in HMV, ezydvd or sanity?
