When you finally beat the neighbour out with the washing, until you come back later and it is pi**ing down with rain and you go to take it in and realise she beat you. Given up now. I am not really that sad, its just neighbour winds me up with comments like "Probably won't have time to dry as you are putting it out so late", soon shut her up, with nice high fences.

You landed a rare part-time job in your arcane professional specialisation and are pathetically grateful but still can't stop yourself running to the window every time a fire engine or police horse goes by because it's essential to tell ds something interesting about your day when you get home.

Nothing so impressive & socially useful, sadly, I'm a journalist, but a dull one. Touchingly, among the newspaper clippings in my in-tray yesterday was the Guardian's article about Thomas the Tank Engine, clipped by my boss for ds.

You discuss with your SIL (another mum) how nice it is to go to the supermarket in the evening because it's not crowded and you can leave the kids with your dh while you do the shopping in peace.
