I was hoping that this letter may be passed to the Parents of the child to express my remorse.
Dear Parents, please allow me to express how sorry I am for the unfortunate incident that occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, 4th October 2008. I can only imagine the distress that you as a family have gone through as a result of what I can only describe as my fault. I am eternally at your service and if there is anything you feel that I may be able to do to bring some comfort to you and your son, then please do not hesitate to contact me.
My dog Chelsea is not an aggressive dog. She is well known in the area I live as well as my place of work (as I often take her to my office) as a dog that would cause damage only by the wagging of her tail, hence the reason why her tail is constantly bleeding at the tip due to her wagging and hitting the tail against hard objects. Indeed my wife and I have just moved here from the USA where amonst other things Chelsea was a therapy dog for special needs children in New York. She has done her quarantine, is tattooed, chip, neutered and has always been leashed and muzzled.
I was driving home and Chelsea needed to relieve herself when I had to put her on the leash and let her out of the car to do so. Unfortunately Chelsea has what I believe to be a fear of bells and I think that at the moment I took Chelsea out of the car, your son may have jumped on the bells in the playground. I believe that Chelsea did not mean to injure your son but rather attempt to dig under the floor bells in the playground to get at whatever was making the bell like sounds and in her panic injured your child.
This is no excuse for what happened and both my wife and I feel empty inside and deeply upset for the unnecessary stress we have caused you as a family. I know that I cannot ask you to forget, but I hope that in time you may find it in yourselves to be able to forgive me and Chelsea. I understand that I may be asking for too much from you, but Chelsea is a big part of our family and it would shatter our world if she was put down due to my irresponsibilty. I am therefore begging you give Chelsea another chance as I will assure you that this will never happen again. I am willing to take full responsibility for this incident and to take further measures to prevent any such incident occurring again.
