If you replace it soon. The hole will close up eventually though.

how long do you think i could leave it for?

I would suggest trying to get one in teh next 24hrs...less if you can.

I think you should keep earings in for 6m, except for short periods.

Not sure what defines a "short" period though.

You could..and maybe this is more fiddling than necesary...

swap teh existing earing into other hole now for afew hours. Change it back before bed. And again in teh moring before school and replace with new earring after school?

That way the hole won't be left open for so long IYSWIM.

I have a pair of "9CT gold"earrings here which are my dd1's.they haven't been worn for ages and they look a bit tarnished.mum reckons gold just needs a clean.is this true?I don't want to put anything dirty in her ear.

You could clean or soak them in teh ear cleaning solution she had for a few minutes. That should sterilise them

thanks all.
next door neighbour had a "spare" gold earring.
have actually put this in her "good" ear and put original earring in the hole cos it was looking a bit inflamed.
don't know why i worry.i have done allsorts with my earlobes in the past-until one tore altogether.it's just that dd1 had an infection in her pierced ear about 4 years ago and doc told me to let it close up straightaway....!mum thinks i'm obsessed with all these "stupid things"...am i? or is it just that we know more these days?
