Moving from the Weird Habits thread, I thought I'd share my favourite typo, spotted only last week in Tescos where they were advertising Winnie the Poo play mats. This was both on the big print sign and the smaller shelf label.

My, how I sniggered in a puerile fashion!

robinw ... the way I remember practice and practise is a little clumsy but it works ...
practiCe is a noun ... think COMMON NOUN ... think C for Common = practice
Therefore practiSe is the verb
SO... I am going join the local doctor's practice (noun) OR I will practise playing the piano (verb)
My DH just came up with 'Does the practitioner practise at his practice?' ...
Blimey ... I'm off ... far to much brain power ...

Must admit, always used to struggle with practice and practise. However, if I think of advice and advise the distinction becomes clearer.

lucy - I do so agree with that!

frieda - here's a website you might enjoy, if you don't already know it: www.acronymfinder.com.

Thanks sml2 ? I shall tack that on to my "favourites" bit of the tool bar.
Don't suppose you can help with the wierd images that keep cropping up, too?

sml2 · 04/03/2003 13:37

Frieda - glad you like it. Am puzzled what you mean by weird images?

Frieda · 04/03/2003 18:41

sml ? referring to those "Reggie Perrin" moments ? someone comes out with a buzz word, such as "in the loop" (for example) and I suddenly see a large loop ? usually of black plastic electrical wire in this instance ? and completely lose track of the conversation. Don't suppose anyone can help really !
