If you are invited to a wedding but decline the invitation, are you still supposed to buy a present. My cousin's DD is getting wed in Jo'burg and we can't go but she has a wedding list at John Lewis. Have no spare cash at all atm but don't want to seem rude if it is expected.

If you can't afford/don't want to spend a present then I'd just send a card. (not saying you don't want to send a present but it's the same principal.)

Presents shouldn't be expected by anyone IMHO.

Oh I'll definitely send a card, tigers. I'd like to give a gift but we are seriously brassic atm. Which is the main reason we had to say no to the wedding .
