Beach team. Is this common?

We stayed near New Quay in W Wales for our holiday this year. New Quay is a lovely little town, nice beach, dolphins in the bay. But there was a Christian 'beach team' who held regular informal prayer meetings and organised games that all the children could join in with. It actually became quite intrusive after a while - they'd come round 2 or 3 times a day handing out leaflets and asking the children if they wanted to join in. If it was a commercial venture leafletting constantly I think there'd be some objection. I've never experienced anything like this before. Is it common these days? Anyone seen this?
