Gift for a new mum and baby

What was the best gift you had (for you or baby) after giving birth? [A good friend is currently in labour with her second daughter, so I want to shop tomorrow for something. My youngest is nearly two, but my memory is hopeless, and I can't remember anything at all about newborns!]

As a birthday present I bought myself a really smart handbag/rucksac that was big enough to hold a nappy, wipes and a bottle. It made me feel better when I went to 'town' rather than taking a change bag or a Karrimor like I used to. You'd be amazed how much I can squeeze in my handbag.

there is a Gymboree in Lakeside and Blue Water, nice clothes for tinies, V expensive, not so good for older children. Quite reasonably priced in the US though.

Haven't heard of Pumpkin Patch, sounds cute though!

I was sent some chocolate brownies from www.littleredbarn.co.uk which were amazing, the best I've ever tasted. They were particuarly well received as I was in hospital for a week, post caesarian, and the food was awful!

Our daughter was given a money box. Her big brother (3.5) is certainly enjoying it - he goes round collecting all the money that falls out of his father's pockets every time he sits down and puts it in her moneybox (very altruistic of him!). I'm sure she'll do the same when she's older.

Pumpkin Patch is now in Uxbridge - lovely clothes though not cheap. I agree about Gymboree sales!! Also in Windsor.
