What fact about yourself have you never before posted to MN

To start us off, my late father was a trade union leader in the 70s

hmmm not good. Mind you after reading your thread it really makes me feel very stupid feeling so miserable when I haven't even got anything to be miserable about

joash · 22/02/2005 01:38

what're you feeling miserable about?

Gwenick · 22/02/2005 01:40

nothing and everything really - got a Dr.s appointment (thanks to LGJ nagging me all afternoon) on thursday, think I've got depression - but feel weak a) for getting it b) for being scared to ring the dr.s for an appointment and c) for feeling like this in the first place when there's nothing to be depressed about.

Anyhow, enough about me - how's your GS now?

joash · 22/02/2005 01:46

He's okay.

WHy have you got to wait until Thursday, can't you nag them to let you in before?

Gwenick · 22/02/2005 01:51

First appointment available - it's with a dr. I feel comfortable with so I'm not really complaining. And I get really anxious making phone calls that aren't just for a chat so certainly wouldn't have had the inclination to get one sooner even if it was possible. When I called 1 1/2 weeks ago to try and make an appointment (non emergency) for DS1 the soonest they could fit him in was over 1 week later!!!

Haven't actually 'seen' any of the Dr.s at my GP practice even though we've been registered with them for nearly 3yrs. Ds's have both been plenty of times and I did see 'my' GP 3 times while pg and at my 6 week check - didn't like him AT ALL.

joash · 22/02/2005 01:53

Why stay with them if you're not happy with them. Who do you normally see then if not a Dr?

Gwenick · 22/02/2005 01:55

It's a practice were you can see ANY of the Dr.s in it. most of them are lovely, but my 'assigned' GP is a git. ALL of the Doctors in our town are over subscribed - when we moved here nearly 3yrs ago we had to write to the Local Health Authrotiy (or whatever they're called) and they gave us a dr. - we couldn't just go to the nearest one to us!

As for who I've seen - no-one - apart from the lovely MW - as I've not been ill!

joash · 22/02/2005 01:58

Sounds like the situation where I live - I think most doc's are over-suubscribed nowadays. Ours are pretty good and I like them all - trouble is the receptionists think that they own the place and are always trying to fob people off with seeing a nurse rather than the doc. Daft idea really, as once you've seen the nurse, you have to wait whilst the doc has a free moment to sign a prescription.

Gwenick · 22/02/2005 02:01

ooooo tell me about it (receptionists). It's practice policy to ask what the nature of the problem is before making an appointment incase it IS something that can be sorted out by the nurse or whoever. Anyhow first time I called was asked what it was, said I'd rather not say. Was told it really was important as it would make sure I saw the right person. Said I wanted to see a Dr. and she started 'tutting' down the phone as she was finding an available slot..........anyhow couldn't hack it and put the phone down

Although I called back later and got the 'nice' receptionist who didn't question it at all and just 'ok'

joash · 22/02/2005 02:12

I think that I must scare 'em. I rarely have problems getting an actual doc - but everyone else that I know at the same surgery (sorry we've upgraded to Health Centre oooo-like I care eh?) has real difficulty getting past the dragons on reception. I get so peed off when a bloody receptionist has the cheek to expect me to share details that I consider private, with them, so they can decide who to see. Usually ask them where they did their medical training and which confidentiality policy they're subscribed to - shuts em up every time.

Gwenick · 22/02/2005 02:15

I don't mind seeing the nurser practioner for somethings - took DS1 up there the other week and 'knew' it was something the nurser could sort out without seeing a GP. I can 'sort' of understand the reasoning behind them asking - as I know lots of people (not just neurotics mothers [grin[ ) who don't REALLY need to see a Dr. and a nurse could easily sort their problem out.

However, it's very annoying when you're making a call that was difficult to make in the first place only to be 'tutted' at down teh phone

joash · 22/02/2005 02:26

couldn't agree more.

Absolutely knackered now - just looked at the clock and thought BLOODY HELL. Better go to bed, hope you feel better soon. Take Care. X

Gwenick · 22/02/2005 02:27

thank Joash - sleep well

slug · 22/02/2005 14:35

Miaou, with me it's mainly numbers that have a colour association. I also have an internal number line (very common apparantly) and a 3 dimensional internal calendar.

I also have the sound/vision crossover, though this mainly only manifests itself with loud noises. It can make it a pain trying to go to sleep when any car screech outside manifests itself as a jagged white image.

I had to laugh at dh when he had magic mushrooms and was trying to explain to me how the music manifested itself in colours and patterns. Ha! welcome to the way it is for me ALL the time.

SecondhandRose · 22/02/2005 16:03

My friend associates names with 'things'. When she had a baby recently I suggested the name Noah "oh no she said, that's bogies".

Miaou · 22/02/2005 18:36

secondhandrose!! Slug, thanks for that. I do the 3d calendar thingy, like you say I think that's quite common though.

Amanda3266 · 22/02/2005 18:38

I got an A in A Level Archaeology which I studied at evening classes.

Taken me all night to think of something - when i was working i was in three armed bank raids, and handed the cash over once (when a cashier had a knife held against her and couldn't move).

eidsvold · 23/02/2005 04:46

mm can't think of anything exciting.

Taught Wendell Sailor ( high school english) australian rugby league and union winger

taught another guy who was in the gold medal hockey team at Athens

when I was little - my brothers would not take me fishing when we were on holidays so I went by myself.. Managed to catch myself by the ear when I cast the line out.

eidsvold · 23/02/2005 04:47
