When did (or will) your children get bedside table lamps?

Dd is 2.3. She likes to "read" her bedtime stories over again after dp or I have left her to it, then she snuggles down and goes to sleep. She would love a bedside table lamp I'm sure, and from a practical point of view it would mean that she could then turn her own light off when she wanted to go t sleep.

I'm wondering about the safety of her having one though. I remember getting some cracking lightbulb burns as a kid. And there's the flex... and her cup of water ...

What do you do?

DD had one from about the age of 3 and if you put an Energy Saving bulb in, they don't get hot. I would maybe get her a touch on/off lamp for now if you really want to get her one.

Could she have her cup of water in a bottle with a sports cap on, that's what DD1 has. Less likely to spill and electrocute our little darlings.

ours have always had lights. i had to put something on to drug them/ mop up sick, so it's never been a decision really...
get a touch one that she only has to tap the base - it'll be fine. (you'll lose the water when you take her out of nappies at night presumably? mine don't have any water around, it's not allowed in the bedrooms - i get it if req'd, which means only if they are sick lol)

We have these nightlights from Ikea. They are reasonably bright (especially the green one) and do not get hot.

Or a proper lamp, go for a wall lamp like this one. Attach the flex to the wall so it does not hang around in the way.

Her water is in a sport bottle, and she often has a drink overnight so can't really take it away. Hmmm... the more I think about it though, the less I like the idea of her having access to something electrical. She likes getting things wet, or "all soddy" as she puts it.

Oh well. Will see if there's a child proof safety lamp about and abandon the idea if not.

MmeLindt - wall lamp a brilliant idea! Will look into it. (A bit I didn't think of it).

What about getting her a torch! DD1 loved this one from the ELC. It stands up like a lantern as well.

What about one of these lumie alarm clocks? Can be used as a lamp, and also set so that it gently dims over a half hour period so she doesn't have to turn it off.

DD had one of the Ikea wall lamps from when she went into a bed. Worked well for us.

DS has had fairy lights aound his bed from about the age of 2.5. They don't get hot obviously and can easily be switched on and off with little hands.

He also had a bedside lamp from about 3, with an easy switch which I attached to the wall right next to his bed.

We have (so far) never had any problems with this! ?It takes a small energy saving lightbulb, as pg said it doesn't get hot.
