Left London!

What seems like an age ago I asked people for advice on leaving London, where to go etc etc. well I just wanted to report back to you that we have done it! We moved to Faversham in North Kent last week after one of the most protracted buying-selling-moving sagas! I can truly say it is the best thing I have ever done in my life. I already feel my shoulders dropping away from my ears.

We bought a house at the end of a long country lane, only two past us and the road stops. We have a creek at the bottom of the garden and all I can see for 360 around are the salt marshes. It's quite a big leap from Stoke Newington!!! The kids spend nearly all the time in the garden just running around almost drinking in the space, there are sheep in a field at the end of the garden who will be lambing soon which will be thrilling for them - and me!

I realise I am in the honeymoon period, but if anyone is even thinking about escaping from the big smoke, I would say, if you can, then do!

Emmagee it sounds gorgeous. You must be out Oare Creek/Teynham way, maybe? Congratulations on your escape!

Keep us up to date on your 'new life'. Good Luck. R

we escaped last March emmagee. Moved to Devon- we now have a sensibly sized house (rather than shoebox) and a (distant) sea view. Haven't regretted it for one moment Good luck in your new life.

I lurve London, but could not for a minute imagine living there, where you are now sounds idyllic, i would like to live somewhere like that but as both myself and dh don't drive we are very very restricted, especially because of the children and school etc. Hope you all have many many years of happiness.

RosieT · 03/02/2003 22:58

Oooh, I'm so envious! Can't imagine it happening to me, thanks to dh's inner-city-bound job, but I can always dream. Still, only 20-odd years away to our retirement! Enjoy those salt marshes!

ooh I moved from London to Devon too, 3 years ago Jimjams. Emmagee, I have a friend in Faversham, nice place, enjoy!

My brother, my three nieces, a great niece and my nephew and his very pregnant wife all live in and around Faversham, Emmagee, and I went to the grammar school there, many moons ago. Have a wonderful life in your new home!

It is a wonderful feeling to escape the city. We went from a tiny one bed central Edinburgh flat to the middle of nowhere in the Outer Hebrides and it was the best move we ever made. From the lounge (in our wonderfully big house!!) you can see the sea and the mountains, there are sheep and highland cattle in the fields, and even when you stand and listen hard there is no sound of traffic, not matter how distant. We notice most at night - it is totally dark here without a glow or glimmer on the horizon. The stars are amazing and on a good night you can see the northern lights.
I wouldn't go back now, not for anything. After a few days in the city (good shopping etc) I am desperate to get back to the peace and quiet, the cows and the beaches and the clean clean air.

Enjoy it, Emmagee. It soulds like you have madea wonderful decision and you wont regreat it!
