is it true that if you are overdue, the baba's brain developed more than babies who are early or on time?

as my baba was 12 days overdue and ive always noticed that she is well ahead than other babies who is more or less same age as her and i think "my baba start that weeks/ months ago". me and Dp looked in this book of what we should expect in the first year and she falls in the 5 months age - baba just turns 4 months...

at 8 weeks she knew how to take walking steps as dp passed baba over to me one day and she did it, we thought she shouldnt be d oing that as shes too young. she holded her head up literally from birth and now ive bought her a walker 2 weeks ago and loves it (walker got a stopper and its lifted the walker up abit so baba cant go anywhere that much).....

I don't know if that's true or not biglips, there is currently a thread about fast or slow development and whether or not they all catch up

The stepping actions very early on are a reflex, I think. Don't wish the walking thing too soon, you'll never get any peace then, LOL!

Sorry to disappoint - taking steps is just a reflex action at that age A newborn of only a couple of hours old will do the same if its feet are placed on a flat surface.

snafu, dd2 didnt lol. she just lifted her legs up and held them off the cold table, she didnt want to do it. btw she walked at 10months. she was one week early.

baba can go back in her walker so she had her reflexs since she was 8 weeks old then..

Misdee, your dd was definitely a smart cookie, then!

misdee · 13/02/2005 10:59

too smart at times.

dd was very advanced for most things other than walking (14 months) and was a week early.

Agree with suzy - dont wish their time away. baby will be walking and developing all in good time and you will soon wish they were back to the stage they're at now.

biglips · 13/02/2005 15:07

im not worried about it, im just saying how clever she is to do things early (and same to all babies too)

Well, DD1 was 8 days late, DS1 was 7 days early and DD2 was 16 days late - and there was no absolutely NO difference at all with regards to their development!
