When can my DS move to a normal booster seat? He's currently in a booster that has a back, side and head bit joined on to it (IYSWIM!) and I wanna know when I can take this part off. He's 4 and quite big and tall for his age.

Mine says 22 kg, I don't know if it's the same for them all.

22kg is the recommended minimum but they can stay with a back until they no longer need a car seat.

Thanks. He starts school in September and I just wondered how many other school children are still in big clumpy car seats!!

Most of them ! both mine still are anyway - almost 7 and 10 !! Admittedly most of dd's friends are on booster cushions now - probably changed Year 1/2 ish.

my dd starts school this year (is 4.9years) and is still in a high back booster - it does up to about 11 years.

DS is 4.8 and only relatively recently gone to a high back booster (he's in a Britax Evolva 123 so was in the 5 point harness part of it before).

He is a skinny thing though - weighs about 16.5kg. Was realising that DD (2.10) who is 14.8kg is nearly heavy enough for a high back booster but will be staying in the 5 point harness for a while yet .

Stick with the back staying on your seat for as long as you can - it gives much more side impact protection than just a booster seat. In fact I believe going forward that booster cushions without a back will become a thing of the past.

My DS is size and is in a Hi-liner high back booster. DD is 4 1/2 and just gone into her Evolva 2-3 high back booster. They will stay in them for as long as they fit, it's far safer.
