Addicted to going online while at work

Anyone else feel like this? If I am extremely busy or have something nice to do I have been known to work all day and not go online at all....but most days I feel urges to start up internet explorer and take a quick peep into my hotmail, or mumsnet, or the news sites - or whatever. I don't stay on too long at a time - 5-15 mins is average but I could go on 10/15 times a day. As soon as I come in, before coffee, after coffee, mid-way to lunch, before lunch, when I've just come back from the loo.....and the list goes on. I would guess I am not alone.....
Some days (after my first 'FIX' I say that I'll get through till lunch time before going online again but by 10:30 my hands just go there.....despite my protests. And its not like I have nothing to do. Just big difficult things I don't want to/need to get into yet.

I don't walk past my computer without checking for emails/seeing if there are any new posts of interest on Mumsnet et al. I have to check as soon as I walk through the door and often don't even take my coat off first. DH being at home has severely restricted this habit though and I dread to think what will happen when I finally find a job - I'll probably get sacked for spending too much time on line!

I'm at home with the kids all day and have now just stopped turning off the computer in the morning(after my first daily fix)so that I can have a quick look whenever I get a minute.
DS2 also likes to play on the cbeebies site so I don't 'hog' it all day.
We, of the female species, are able to do more than one thing at once after all so I'm quite sure we're not neglecting our children (or work)....mine go in a cage when I want to look on mumsnet so they're quite safe

Oh I'm terrible - I'm checking email every 3 minutes and not 15 mins go by without me checking Mumsnet for new messages ! Trouble is I work from home but rarely get anything done !!!

Now I've discovered I can even read the paper on-line - so that's another time-waster !

mum2toby · 30/01/2003 14:35

I work fulltime and there is a 'personal email policy' enforced... however I too am an email/internet junkie!! There...I've finally admitted it!!! I HAVE A PROBLEM!!!

I can't go 10 minutes without checking Mumsnet and I am in constant communications with people via email... at work and elsewhere!!!

I'm actually scared I lose my job, but i can't stop. It's the only thing that keeps me sane.

prufrock · 30/01/2003 14:40

Oh GOd mumto toby me too. I actually decided on Monday that I would not check Mumsnet until lunch, I lasted until 10.20!

mum2toby · 30/01/2003 14:46

10.20am WELL DONE......you should congratulate yourself for having such resolve!

I start at 8am, but I get work at 7.45am. The FIRST thing I do is check mumsnet and my emails!! I've been caught on more than a few occasions!!

My home computer is broken just now so I have to get my 'fix' at work.

SOMEBODY HELP US!??

mum2toby · 30/01/2003 14:46

Or are we beyond help? >whimper

Meid · 30/01/2003 14:56

Yes, me too. I can't stop! But what scares me is that I actually have time to surf the net most of the day. Work is slowing down... there's rumours of redundancies... Anyone else feeling like that?

GeorginaA · 30/01/2003 14:59

Blogs and bulletin boards are my achilles heel... oh if only I could have this much enthusiasm for something that actually paid.

CookieMonster · 30/01/2003 15:03

YES YES YES ... me too! I just can't help it ... I'm at work from about 8am till 4pm and must peek in here at least once an hour. I am currently sitting on my own pending a desk move (the rest of my team have already gone) so there is nobody to check up on what I'm doing .... I'm hoping the move will be a while yet because then I might have to do some work !!

I can't do links I'm afraid but check this out. Ten signs you're addicted to the internet. Unfortunately, I am as well.
