Does anyone know where our children's free portion of fruit and veg are prepared?

Just curious, really. They seem to be the same fruit/veg countywide each day. Yesterday the pears smelt of old socks, and dds teacher reported it to the head. Just wondered who might be preparing them. Centrally? Or some little kitchen in the county?

I'd be interested to know too. Our school gets bog standard fruit but I know at a friend's school they can pay extra to get organic, which I'd gladly do except I don't think there would be much demand in our school

That's interesting, WWW. I'd gladly do it too, but we've never been given the option in dd's school. I think there'd be a few takers there too. I wonder if it hasn't been mentioned 'cos it might make for a 'my fruit's better than your fruit' scenario with the children - unless it could be done in an inconspicuous way. I suppose too it would mean more aggro for the teachers - they'd have to call up the individual 'organic' eating pupils rather than saying 'help yourselves from the basket' to everyone.

Our fruit is sourced locally.
