Do you tip the Sainsburys delivery man?

We just received our first Sainsbury's home delivery this evening and I thought it was fantastic. The delivery man was really nice and he carried all the shopping upstairs (we are in a second floor flat). I know it's his job and you're paying £5 for delivery but do you tip as well?

Nope. That's what you're paying £5 for.

Hulababy · 07/02/2005 21:24

Not had delivery for a while now, but when we did - no I didn't.

ChicPea · 07/02/2005 21:25

Use Ocado and Tesco. It has never ocurred (sp?) to me to tip.

tamum · 07/02/2005 21:25

Oh blooming heck I hope not. Something else to worry about

lunavix · 07/02/2005 21:26

Nope.

We've had 4 or 5 from Tesco's and 1 from Sainsburys. We buy a lot of fruit and half of the stuff from sainsbury's was squished/rotten! Having said that, I unpacked it after him leaving (and not tipping him) but they tend to chuck the bags in my door and leg it.

As far as I'm concerned, if they waited till I checked through it, was happy with it etc, then I'd tip them. None of them ever are, if you even nose into a bag they get impatient.

Nope. Ours is just delivered to our front door and no more. If I tipped the Sainsbury's bloke I would surely then have to consider tipping the postman?!!!

charleypops · 07/02/2005 21:35

I don't tip the Ocado man - never occured to me either. How much did you tip? Did he accept it like it's usual?

kikidee · 07/02/2005 21:37

No, I didn't tip him but afterwards I thought maybe I should have. Thanks all of you for setting my mind at rest!

oh tbank god that is a resounding no so far!

SoupDragon · 07/02/2005 21:45

I don't tip anyone.

Twiglett · 07/02/2005 21:50

No

Twiglett · 07/02/2005 21:51

BTW if anyone wants to try out ocado (waitrose) .. but you have to be an ocado-virgin, I can send you an email with a £15 off voucher .. see my thread under food

toomanypushchairs · 07/02/2005 21:58

Go with Ocado! I don't tip him but if I was to tip the delivery man it would be them over sainsburys etc. They bring my shopping down the steps to my front door and then bring it through into my kitchen, they are always polite and are very nice to my 2yr old dt's even though they get under his feet!

motherinferior · 07/02/2005 22:41

No. I do leer suggestively at the muscular young Antipodeans who deliver our organic boxes - do you think that counts?

ScummyMummy · 07/02/2005 22:44

Certainly it counts, MI. I suspect it makes their day.

Hell no! Mind you, I don't tip unless the service I get is fantastic. I'm a believer in the Reservoir Dogs system...if you don't want to work in a job where you rely on tips, learn to ^%&$ing type!

Merlot · 08/02/2005 00:46

Nope
