.... why Caligula?

you've probably explained this before but I missed it if you have and I've been dying to ask for ages.

does anyone know why Caligula?

No still here!

Don't know really - I used to post under another name and suddenly got paranoid about people finding out who I was because I told everyone I knew about Mumsnet, then realised I'd told everyone everything about myself on Mumsnet, and some of the more personal stuff is not necessarily info I'd want to share with people who only half know me, iyswim!

I may well have been reading something about the Roman Empire at the time! (Well it was that or VioletElizabethBott, so...)

Joolstoo · 05/02/2005 23:13

just the only picture I have of Caligula is the one painted by Robert Graves in I Claudius and I wouldn't know how accurate that was!

He wasn't a very pleasant character in that and I think I'm scared of you!

Good! You need to be!

I'm consulting with my horse this very evening to find how I can punish everyone on Mumsnet who disagrees with me!

(He's a bit nervous in case there's a mafia out there!)

Caligula · 05/02/2005 23:33

I'm considering Nero for my next pseudonym...

lapsedgymjunkie · 05/02/2005 23:36

What, as in Café Nero ??

Runs for cover at speed of light ....

Caligula · 05/02/2005 23:38

You can run but you can't hide...

girlfromip · 06/02/2005 09:56

Have you seen the film with Malcolm MacDowell?

Blackduck · 06/02/2005 09:58

I thought perhaps you were a Smith's fan...you know
"Caligula would have blushed"

Caligula · 06/02/2005 16:29

Which is the one with Malcom McD? Not the famous one which was half porn? And someone like John Gielgud was in it by accident?

Yes, and it was rubbish! So boring!

Joolstoo · 06/02/2005 16:32

yes - it was pretty dire! wasn't it Ken thingy who did Women in Love?

ps - Caligula - talking to your horse if fine - just don't go and lay down with your sister!

OP posts:
Caligula · 06/02/2005 17:14

Oh yes, Ken Russell. One of his drunker film moments, by the looks of it.

No chance of laying down with my sister - she snores too much!

girlfromip · 06/02/2005 20:19

I haven't seen it but apparently it was an amazing film initially but the studio which funded it told them to go back and put lots of gratuitous bonking into it or they wouldn't release it. Apparently the original had all sorts of brilliance in it or so a programme I saw about it said, plus Helen Mirren! But I haven't seen either film so what do i know!! It's a great name for a mumsnet nickname though. I would never mess with someone with that handle!
