Burns Night

Wondered if anyone was celebrating Burns Night this evening. Obviously I expect this question to be answered by the Scottish mumsnetters but there maybe some 'expats' out there also celebrating.

We are having haggis, neeps and tatties for dinner. I also made some shortbread with a ginger icing earlier which is really yummy. I won't be indulging in whisky though as I don't like it. Dh does though. I am sticking to a glass of red wine (or three)

Anyway Happy Haggis to anyone celebrating!

Oh eulalia, I feel so ashamed to be reminded! I am an 'ex pat' living down south but have always until this year celebrated burns night, if only with dh (who is english but has adapted well, ie. LOVES haggis, and buys it all year round if he can. My only excuse is we are in the middle of birthday party season at the moment and can only cope with one tradition at once! Hope you are having a good burns night. Off to call my dad up in Edinburgh.

Not celebrating but DS1's playgroup are having a Burns Night (?) on Monday morning and he has to wear something tartan and they are going to learn some Scottish dances and taste some local fare. Arrrgh, I'm on helper duty on Monday, I just hope they don't have me in the kitchen cooking up the haggis, I won't have a clue!

thumper - hope you have some good birthday parties - how about a haggis cake? (only joking!)

Demented - most haggis nowadays you just put in the microwave. It is catching them first that is the problem

Went to a fantastic Burns supper last night. MMM MMM MMM to haggis, neaps and tatties and whisky galore. Glad you had a good time too, Eulalia

WE had haggis, neeps and tatties as well. Also Drambuie and Deans shortbread (best I've ever tasted - better even than homemade). All of this was dh's idea. He decided that we should be doing more to celebrate our national bard's birthday.

We were going to have haggis tonight but got asked out for tea at the last minute where we had venison! (mmmmmm)
So haggis tomorrow for us!
