I buy the kids a book each for getting a good report, but can't think which ones to get this year.

I have dd1 (10) Very good reader, Dd2 (8) Reading age about 2 years ahead of her age, and Ds (5) who is really struggling with reading at the mo, but likes me to read to him.

So,any ideas ?

Michael Morpurgo - adored by my 8year old (good reader)
Diary of Anne Frank (also adored by her, but may be more suitable for 10yo)
Lemony Snicket
mmmm, will keep thinking!

DS who's five has just got inot the jeremy strong books, my brother's famous bottom and my dad's got an alligator are his favourites. He can't really read them alone yet so I read them to him but he really enjoys them and they're quite funny.

Have you looked on the fiction books section? There are quite a few threads there on good children's books.

Cressida Cowell "How to Train your Dragon" to read aloud to the 5.

Not sure about the 8 - maybe Helen Dunmore - Ingo. It's about mermaids.

Hilary McKay for the 10. Brilliant "girl's" books with a lot more to them than the normal ones in this genre. Saffy's Angel is the first.
