Car makes knocking noises when I brake, what could it be?

It has just come back from the garage, having been repaired after an accident. When cold, the engine sounds like normal - but after I have driven for around 50 km, when I brake there is a sinister knocking sound under the bonnet.
Not linked with going round corners - could it still be the bearings?

I am going to take it back to the garage, but would like to be a bit clued up beforehand.
Can anyone suggest anything it might be??

sounds like your brake pads may be worn down

Nighbynight · 07/07/2008 22:01

It was fine before it went to the garage

Hmmn, you need to brake harder, before you hit things.

They do go "all of a sudden" - don;t do what I did and leave it for ages, otherwise it'll f*ck your disks up as well (and that's the expensive bit - dp was not best pleased !)

thank you everyone!

better take it back tomorrow then, sigh.

the guy from the garage drove it around for a bit and said it is not the brakes, it is a cable that has been put back wrongly, so when you brake it is slack and knocks. I couldnt understand more, because he was saying a lot of technical words that I didnt understand (he was speaking german). Anyway, they are going to fix it and rehouse the pixies
