ticking spiders

hi has anyone heard of a ticking spider my mum is convinced she has one in her lounge

there is a distinct ticking in the lounge hope its not a spider i cant bear them either

What, ticking as in tick-tock-tick-tock??

No way, never heard of it, we get alot of scratching in our house though - MICE!!!

I read it as tickling! .

DH says he's not heard of them (and he has an obsessive interest in spiders and snakes ) - he did say that death watch beetles make a tapping sound and so do cicadas.

are cicadas due an apperance this year?

could it be a cricket?

Are you sure it isn't something dripping. We had an annoying persistant sound for weeks. Hunted high and low for source. Turned out to be a leak in the neighbours upstairs radiator pipe, dripping against the connecting wall!

Never heard of a spider ticking. Death watch beetle ticks....

How loud is it?
Wasps make a kind of ticking(ish) chomping noise when they are building a nest...
i have no idea if wasps are alive this time of year though.... we had a noise in our sitting room and i told my mum we had wasps and she didn't believe me, but there was a huge nest in our attic!

we also used to get a ticking noise from where the pipe to the radiator went up through the polystyrene ceiling tiles and made them move!
