Lots of shops in my home town are closing down, leaving the town looking a bit sad.

This year a lovely gift shop, 2 toy shops, a craft shop, a shoe shop, a clothes shop, and a coffe shop (all independant) and H Samuals have all closed. Oh, and some estate agents - The rents around here are high, but I was just wondering if it was just here, or if it's the same everywhere?

Moble phone shops seem to be doing well, though!

All the shops in our town have been closed down and replaced with hairdressers and takeaways.

We never had a tchibo. I never knew it was tchibo either - thought that was an e on the end - tchibe.

LIZS · 03/07/2008 17:24

Noticed in our local town yesterday that Mark 1 are closing down, ShoeFayre and Burger King have gone recently, toy shop went earlier in the year, MVC last, all lie empty , even Lidl didn't last long.

LIZS · 03/07/2008 17:25

We do have Tchibo though

TillyScoutsmum · 03/07/2008 17:27

I believe Tchibo are struggling generally - wouldn't think it will be long before they go bump

Fanella · 03/07/2008 17:28

Oh, and we have got a new Tesco, in addition to the one in the town just down the road, which also has and Asda and is soon getting an Aldi and a Lidl.

Ooo - aren't we going to be spoilt for choice?

We've lost: lovely greengrocers, independent baby gear shop, independent 99p shop, Papa Johns Pizza all in the last couple of months.

Virtually all replaced by...betting shops!

Weird or what?

southeastastra · 03/07/2008 17:49

our high street is dead since they built a new small complex type place. i think the shop that has now been here the longest is the knitting shop

Desiderata · 03/07/2008 17:52

Nothing much has changed in my village except for one estate agent, which has recently gone under.

I can't say I'm sad. You can't buy knickers in this place, but you can shop for houses in at least three different places.

LynetteScavo · 03/07/2008 18:25

Oh I forgot, we lost Mothercare and KwickSave(but it's been replaced by a pound shop) and a record shop Flop!(you know what I mean!)
