Anyone remember this film...? Read the book when the film first came out 1983/4??? and have loved it ever since, managed to get the new complete version on dvd and now i'm in fully fledged nostalgia moment... !

Fallen in love with all of them again! particularly sodapop!!! 'movie star kind of handsome!' you bet! sigh!

anyone want to join me in sighs and reminiscing over how young and handsome they all look.... c.thomas Howell, Ralph Macchio, Rob Lowe, Matt Dillon, Emilio Esteves, Patrick Swayze and tom cruise... and curse how gorgeous diane lane is!!!

Oh I loved this film, Rob Lowe never looked better (before he got his nasty mullet in St Elmo's Fire). I used to rent it from our video shop every weekend for months

moopymoo · 03/07/2008 20:54

oh i loved this too. Rob Lowe was gorgeous then. Then he went all creepy. Then lovely again in the West Wing

Walnutshell · 03/07/2008 20:56

I had such a major thing about Ralph Macchio that I almost thought I wouldn't be able to live life without being with him.

What a tw*t I was at that age.

OK, now I'm going to moon over the link!

I remember a few years after it came out there was a story that the director / casting guy put Tom Cruise in the smallest roll (petrol pump attendant) as they thought he had the least star potential.

God I loved this film. And the book.
Thanks for reminding me.

gio71 · 03/07/2008 21:09

Yes Ralph was lovely too. As was Matt Dillon. And Rob did get back to his Sodapop best in the West Wing Moopymoo you're right.
May have to pay a visit to amazon to order film

ooo! glad i'm not the onlyone ... the newer version of the film is fab becasue they've made it truer to the book.... but they've changed the film score too... so it feels like a new film! Plus there's oodles more scenes with sodapop in!!!!
