I need a kick to get me going. Cooking day yesterday was spoilt by my gorgeous dippy cat being run over. D(ish)H is very last minute so I get stressed. Also has ridiculous ideas - eg to put 2 ladders up in the party tent to attach speakers to. Very attractive and oh so safe! AND I've woken up with a sore throat. Any tips for getting men to do things quickly without intakes of breath/hands on hips pose? If I criticise, he wanders off and does something entirely different. I dream of actually being ready for a party on time - hair, make-up etc.!!

do your own thing - get your bits organised and say nothing to him.

Whatever still needs doing, stop an hour before people are due to arrive and get ready - you won't enjoy yourself if you haven't got ready properly.

As for the getting men organised thing, I would agree - just ignore him and do what you think is necessary.

I think because I set times/ make lists I'm not very tolerant! Sadly his jobs (and he has a friend round to help) are things I'm rubbish at - lights, speakers etc. Food all cooked - herbs for garnish all chopped in little pots as well - and all just ready to assemble. Plates, napkins, knives, forks ready to go. 5 hours of 80s music on CD...
Fortunately mil on her way round - he won't sulk for her!!
Right, off to turn the house into an 80s extravaganza!!

Good luck!

On a smaller scale we're having a birthday party for DS in the garden this afternoon so I really should be doing something else (eg cleaning house, sorting out and decorating garden, preparing food, having a shower etc....).

is cat ok

swedishmum · 28/06/2008 14:48

No TheChicken, sadly Bobcat didn't make it - he was right by the road though so hopefully didn't suffer too much. The worst thing was telling the children .
JUst dh's jobs to finish now - then the robot can do a quick hoover and I can stick in my shoulder pads and hair gel.

Aw sad news about your cat. I hope you feel sligtly more relaxed about the party though. You certainly sound like you've got everything under control.

I'm sure once the party gets started, you'll forget all about the stressful day you've had. Sounds like a fab night ahead, with all that 80's stuff going on. Right up my street! What time do you want me?

Kbear · 28/06/2008 16:03

Ooh, sounds like a fab party -
