Put some dried rice in a bag, put the phone in there, leavi it overnight and the rice should've dried the phone out by morning. Tie the bag

mine died after Ds dropped mine in the toilet
do not press any buttons until you think it mmight have dried out

sandyballs · 25/06/2008 21:26

I dropped mine in a deep puddle a few months ago. I put it in the airing cupboard for about 24 hours, kept checking it beforehand and it was dead as a door nail, but eventually it must have dried out and it burst into life. Only problem is it wiped the memory card, so lost all my photos and videos.

Yeah, my mum's a nightmare and always drops her phone in the toilet or the mop bucket

Desiderata · 25/06/2008 21:28

It might work again, but most of the key functions will be lost.

The damage to certain components is instantaneous, and no amount of drying will restore what's been lost.

Tell her not to put her mobile in her back pocket in future

Ds1 dropped ours in the toilet. I just left it to dry for a long time (days) and it started working again. Don't be tempted to fiddle with it until it's completely dry though. Airing cupboard sounds good.

littleboyblue · 25/06/2008 21:30

Dunno. I've always just used normal stuff. Rice is rice though, hey? Might do. You could give it a try

WendyWeber · 25/06/2008 21:31

It will work, when it dries out enough, but will gradually lose its faculties. (My children have soaked many phones, in a variety of liquid substances - water is the least harmful - and they all turn their toes up in the end)

Wezzle · 25/06/2008 21:41

If it's a Nokia it'll probably be ok.

I've had a few of these end up in the washing machine
just took them to pieces and left on the
radiators to dry
and they're as good as new

dexter73 · 26/06/2008 08:22

Agree with Wezzle - I washed my dh's phone (a Nokia) last week. He opened it up and left it to dry overnight and it worked perfectly well! Don't try to turn it on before it has dried or it might short out.

ScotsLassDownSouth · 26/06/2008 11:13

DS's Nokia has been through the hot wash twice now! As above, open it up, let it dry out and it'll be fine.

Shame for DS as he really wants a new phone - but he'll have to wait until his birthday.

orangehead · 26/06/2008 11:16

I did this too, phone didnt work at first but took it apart - battery out, sim card out and let it all dry overnight then I put it back together in the morning and it worked fine

littleboyblue · 26/06/2008 12:13
