Hello,

Our daughter is graduating in two weeks’ time and I don’t know what to expect during the day; like does everyone get flowers? When do we give the flowers? It will be pain to carry it around before and after the ceremony. Also, I need some ideas for graduation gifts- thinking of Tiffany heart necklace as we got the bracelet for 21st birthday, or a Marc Jacobs bag, Pandora charm? Any ideas welcome, please?

TIA
Best

My parents got me flowers but delivered to the house on the morning so I wasn’t carrying them round.
I got jewellery for my graduation it’s nice to have something to keep.

No flowers , too much faff as is moving homes a few days after grad. I gave her a necklace . A Gold Star on a silver chain by Daniella Draper . The silver chain really makes the gold star stand out.

My dd graduated last year.

We didn't get her a present - this is the first I have heard of it. We paid for her gown hire and took her out for lunch.

Flowers weren't a thing when I graduated back in the 80s so I didn't know about those either until we turned up and saw others with them. They were being sold on a stall at the Uni so we bought some (dd chose the ones she liked) after the graduation ceremony so that she had them for photos.

My niece graduated 2 years ago, we didn't get her flowers as probably half of the parents present didn't get flowers for their kids as well. Some did though but I thik it depends on personal preferences and whether its convenient! If you don't think it would be or DD isn't a huge fan of flowers, skipping them is entirely fine!
Niece's birthday was just around her graduation day as well, so we didn't get her a separate gift but she asked for a gift card to a perfume store and we got it for her as an addition to the main present. We also made a graduation slideshow with all the photos taken throughout the years and played it at the party, she loved it!

You have NEVER heard of anybody buying their DC a gift for graduation?? Or are you being faux suprised to feel superior?

Why on earth would I pretend to be surprised to feel superior? That's an odd thing to assume.

There are lots of things which people do which either didn't happen when I was young or weren't common in my circles. Quite often, Mumsnet is the first place that I have heard of them eg Christmas Eve boxes.

There might be people I know who have bought their DC a gift for graduation but as it's not something that has ever come up in conversation, it's genuinely not something that I had heard of before coming across this thread.
