3 yr old AKA Harry Potter constantly

Strange as it may sound my 3yr old dd is obsess ed with Harry potter. 3 months back we brought her to the movie (2nd one) and surprisingly she sat through the whole thing without a peep munching her popcorn. It was the first movie we brought her too and I was unsure of the choice but really wanted to go myself.
However every single day since she has assumed the role of HP, I am Hermione, dh is Ron and when my mother comes to visit she has to be Hagrid (HaHa). It's all completely harmless I'm sure but ever so slightly grating after 3 mths, also dh is worried that as she's "tending to be Harry Potter" and in turn "tends to be a boy" that we are going to have gender problems.
Otherwise she is a very happy Girl and loves pink and party dresses are we being over worried or just driven mad?????

Try not to worry my ds (almost 3) thinks that he is a Thunderbird. Still it makes a change when he was 2 he thought he was Thomas the Tank engine :0

angelmother, my dd1 (also 3) is Tinkerbell, Peter Pan, Ariel, Belle, a cat on a daily basis. Tiring, isnt it!

Don't worry at the moment my 3 yr old son thinks he is a dog, last week it was a cat. I think it is something they all go through and its harmful at this stage. Was a bit concerned though when he said he wanted to sleep outside like clifford does.

It may be boring but it's totally harmless. Of course she's being HP - he's the central character and the star! Your dh, I'm afraid, is being silly! Men are so absurdly touchy about gender/sexuality, see the boys toys thread for more of that.

Thank God it's not just me, it is inclined to drive you demented though as if she asks me where my broomstick is again I might just lose it....

Ds is Scooby Doo, dh is Fred, dd is little Fred(??) and yes, I am Shaggy - or Velma if he is feeling kinder - never Daphne!!

Any ideas for breaking it (after 3mths) or should we grit our teeth and let it wear off eventually.........

No advice other than to grit your teeth. DS1 is Spiderman, a dog, a horse... sigh.

DOn't worry. My friend's daughter was Harry Potter for a while. Her nursery entered into the fun and all her drawings/paintings etc came back with 'Harry Potter' on them instead of her name.

It lasted 2-4 weeks, IIRC.

I think that most children go through this stage. My brothers daughter was the little mermaid for months. Now she is training to be a speech therapst. They grow up and out of it

It gets really tiring never getting to be 'yourself' - doesn't it. My dd is not quite 3 and her imagination seems to run away with her sometimes - whether we are playing 'mummies and babies', 'clifford', 'fimbles' or whatever. Sometimes she wont even answer to her own name! But I tell myself it is a sign of intelligence and grin and bear it - except we have made a rule tht there is no playing like that while we are eating, we all sit down together and are ourselves. Can't wait till ds is old enough to play it all with her.

My Mum takes consolation in that Hagrid is Harrys' friend but yes it does get tiring. I am waiting to go see another movie with her hope that might transfer some of the interest into something else but for now yes I try to console myself that her strength of imagination is a sign of intelligence......if only I could wave my magic wand
