Bloody typical, never go out and then this happens. I couldn't go and stay with brother and family last weekend as he wasn't going to be there, so re-arranged to go on 5th for a slap up meal and a get together for us (and the kids) - really looking forward to it.

DH has just called to say we are supposed to be going to someone's surprise party that night. I must admit it was mentioned in the past, but it was only vague date-wise ie. "its around the weekend of the 4th something like that" but was not confirmed to us. The husband who is organising the party is now pissed off with us as he reckons we said we'd be there.

I now don't know what to do...... help!! I get really stressed about things like this, especially with family - as don't live near my family and really look forward to spending time with them.

On the other hand, wouldn't want to let friends down. Problem is, not sure we could even get a babysitter for the party as usual babysitter is daughter of woman whose party it is IYSWIM!!!!

What would you all do?

Personally I'd go with the slap up family outing and explain to the surprise party organiser that you already have plans for that night....not easy, I know, but if you're anything like us we rarely get to go out as a family and it means a lot when we do!
