How much would it cost to replace the element on my oven? All the new ones I like are SO expensive - so I might get the old one repaired

Stingy aren't I

The nice cookers (ie the ones I like) are about £800

I have virtually nothing to spend so thought a repair might be the way to go

Ours went a while back and bought a new one online for about 30 quids, FIL fitted it for us. It looked pretty straightforward. We had to unscrew the oven from the unit and pull it out to get at the back of it and then the element screwed off and we screwed the new one in (technical aren't I? )

Oh......Now does anyone know where I can get a nice new DH to work out how to do all that

OK I'll get the manual out

I bought my new element off Ebay for £20 and fitted it myself. It really is very easy and there is no need to buy a new cooker just because the element has gone!

Really?

The fan is still working

Definitely worth trying, sorry if I made it sound complicated! When I saw FIL do it I thought 'Oh, I could have done that myself'.

I know what you mean - some things turn out to be obvious

Fingers crossed - I'll take it apart tomorrow (& out it back together) then see what I can order

We've just had to buy a new element for our 18mo Whirlpool fan oven - it cost £60 including fitting, using a local company and comes with a 6m guarantee.

KatyMac · 25/06/2008 19:57

Only £71

My DH did ours with an eBay spare and a YouTube video!

We got a replacement from espares, it was £38 and easily fitted in about 10 minutes.
