Has anyone bought their daughter a pair of Start-rite english classics ? No where seems to stock them so I would have to order them. Before I did I would like to know if they are practical as well as gorgeous. I've heard that they are stiff and don't have much grip. Is this true? and do they come up deep as my daughter has a high instep.
She has a prize giving day and a wedding to wear them to. I will try to do a link.

I would get them in white so that they would go with everything.

There aren't any stockists of english classics outside of London. Clare is very like louisa but louisa doesn't come in white. Maybe you could find a louisa to try for size and then find a stockist to mail you a clare. They don't have as much grip as a crepe/rubber sole so you will have to scrath the soles before she wears them. My dd has a high instep and is generally better with a T bar but has has clare/louisa style shoes also. Clare only comes in an F and sometimes with a high instep you might need a wider fitting.

Yes I think they are lovely. If I ordered them and they didn't fit, suit her foot shape or what ever they wouldn't make me buy them.

Yes she wears Louisa all the time. She is a G fitting and she needs half a size bigger to get even more width. Like you say it only comes in dark colours. I was hoping they came up a bit wider than louisa because apparently that comes up narrow.

Agree on the whole high instep/t-bar issue.

DD is an F fitting when measured, and is an F in most shoes, but with a mary-jane strap that goes directly across the foot like that, she goes up to a G.

But they are very pretty, and if you don't have to buy them if they don't fit, you may as well give them a whirl!
