Men's Good Habits

I thought I would be a bit controversial here and start this one. I am sure they must have some!

My DH is good about getting up in the morning and giving DS1 and DS2 breakfast allowing me to have a shower or get my own breakfast. He is also good about bathing the kids (2/3 times a week) and putting DS1 to bed most nights which allows me to b/f DS2 in peace. Also I better give him some credit for working and not complaining about being the breadwinner as I am a SAHM.

I'm sure this thread won't be as much fun as the other one mind you!

oh you softie, demented!

my dh also gets up early to give dd her breakfast, and brings me a cup of tea to dink in bed in peace

Tissy · 13/01/2003 13:34

Drink! (Now I sound like Fr. Jack

SoupDragon · 13/01/2003 13:37

Erm... he does bath time.

Copper · 13/01/2003 13:46

He makes up the most wonderful games out of nothing that have been favourites for years, he wirtes down thwe wonderful things the children say, he hoards away their pictures to find them years later, he really encourages them, he absolutely adores them - what a man!

Mines · 13/01/2003 13:54

Always brings me a cup of tea if he's up before me, never lets me feel sorry for myself. (hence superb comment during labour 'that last scream was really whingy, you know' )

AngieL · 13/01/2003 13:59

No sorry I can't think of anything. Only joking my dh can turn his hand to anything practical, fix the car, mend the washing machine, rewire the house, build an extension etc etc.

prufrock · 13/01/2003 14:02

Has coffee and dd ready to breastfeed for me when I get out of the shower, then dresses her whilst I get ready for work. has a bath with dd 5/7 nights. Gets her up, formula fed, breakfasted and back down for morning nap before makiing me breakfast in bed one day a weekend (I do the same for him the other day) Makes dinner most nights whilst I do last feed (admittedly usually involves heating up stuff I prepared earlier). Always does the washing up (I load dishwasher)
In short - hes a star and I am very lucky

Lindy · 13/01/2003 14:24

Works very long hours for loads of dosh & keeps out of my way!! Sorry if that sounds sarky! He is a great Dad, really enjoys being with our DS - always takes him swimming at weekends/does bath duty when he can get home on time/last night spent ages going through all DS's toys etc deciding what he (DS not DH!) had grown out of & ocming up with constructive ideas for his birthday present.

hmb · 13/01/2003 14:41

At the risk of sounding soppy.....Dh tells me he loves me every day. He does the same to the children, and what is more he means it I'm a lucky woman.....now if I can just get him to remove the emply toilet roll!

Enid · 13/01/2003 15:16

Brings me tea and toast in bed at the weekends; works really hard but is always cheerful when he gets home; endlessly pretends to be Captain Hook/King Triton/Mr Mcgregor to dd1's Tinkerbell/Ariel/Peter Rabbit; takes dd1 swimming every Sunday; can fix anything and everything; has become a rather good cook; makes me laugh a lot. And he's even learnt to change dd2's 'complicated' washable nappies.

Philippat · 13/01/2003 16:15

I think I've got to come and sing dh's praises on here as I'm a bit worried I've got most of the bad habits listed on the men's bad habit's thread (me not dh).

Bless him, he's a star, does all the washing up, most of the laundry, all the nursery runs, childcare 2 days a week, baths dd every night, even gave me a 2hr lie in both days this weekend cos I was feeling rotten even though he was supposed to be at work. Pretty good at birthday/christmas/anniversary etc presents too.

I don't think I'd better share the bad habits thread with him or he'll be getting ideas above his station...

breeze · 13/01/2003 17:27

My dh, does the housework on his day off, brings me flowers on a regular basis, always likes to cuddles which watching tv in the evening, does all the ironing, buys me silly little pressies, even remember the date we got together and buys a little gift, tells me he loves me every day. cooks, cleans, reading this it sounds like he will make someone a great wife.

Reading the other thread (men annoying habits) you wouldn't believe its the same man.

SimonHoward · 13/01/2003 18:19

My god we have some habits that women like?

This will have to stop, next you'll be telling people that we are soppy and romantic.

LOL

DH's big thing with DD (9 months) is the bedtime routine. DD is just not the same if I have to do if he is out for some reason. DH has it down to a tee now though. Starts with a mad half hour play, then bath time, followed by a warm bottle of milk with a cuddle. He then takes her to her cot, says good night and she goes quickly off to sleep.

DH is also good at bring me breakfast in bed at weekends and he always does the cup of teas in the evening (or something stronger if I fancy it).

He actually took a day off to look after me and my 2 ds, all v poorly with d+v, and coped with all the poo and vomit. Brings me tea, toast,OJ and vitamins every morning, puts the nappies on to wash every other day (pulling them out of the soaking bucket, especially considering their current state, euwooo), empties the dishwasher first thing, clears up the supper things, leaving me a tidy kitchen, feeds the cats, helps to clear all of the toys away, and all this despite working really hard over 70hrs a week. Just a shame that he doesnt get to spend more time with the kiddies as he's a great dad too.

Clarinet60 · 15/01/2003 22:26

well puke, vomit and kiss my *ss.

Only joking ladies, congrats - you are all very lucky. Think of me next time you get a cup of tea in bed.

When my dh does make me a cup of tea, i like it strong and milky, he can not understand that and it always looks like cats p*, so therefore he doesn't make me tea anymore, he's quite cleaver really

SoupDragon · 16/01/2003 11:13

Don't be ridiculous, SimonHoward, we're not that mad. Hehehe.

sueanna · 16/01/2003 12:08

My DH likes to talk to our DD as she has just started saying the odd letter ... and the first word he wants her to say is.........BEER!

Melly · 16/01/2003 12:41

gives me a lie in at the weekends for as long as I want whilst he entertains 18 mo dd.
Cooks dinner virtually every night (that he is at home) whilst I bath and put dd to bed, and has G&T (well just T at the moment!) ready for me when i come downstairs.
Praises me to friends and relatives on the way I look after dd.

mum2toby · 16/01/2003 12:59

My boyf lets me lie in on Sunday mornings. He gets up with ds and gives him his breakfast. It's wonderful!!

He does the hoovering, and the dishes. I do the cooking and the rest ofthe housework.
It's a bit of role reversal in our house though coz I'm the main bread winner. So I just take it for granted now (I know I shouldn't).

But that doesn't stop all of his annoying habits from annoying me!!!.... bless his (smelly)cotton socks.

mum2toby · 16/01/2003 13:02

Oh I forgot to say that he too makes up the most wonderful games to play with ds. I've discovered since having a child of my own that I have no imagination left! I'm just cr*p at playing!!!
