I wanted to give you all my experience of the dreaded colonoscopy prep!
I was extremely strict to the rules as I desperately wanted this procedure to go ahead and not have to go back a second time.
So 5 days before I cut out seeds, nuts, brown food in general. Eating white diet. Slightly tricky thinking of things to eat but you get there.
Day before the colonoscopy I had a light breakfast and lunch and stopped food 1pm. My procedure was 2pm the next afternoon.
5pm I started my prep drink. I refused Moviprep and was given an alternative citrafleet! This is mixed with 150ml of water only! Now here's the great news, it was nice! It reminded me of a lemon sour sweet.
This was sipped over an hour with water in between. Once that is drank the key is to drink up to 2 litres afterwards. This will NOT work if you do not have lots of water or other liquid.
So all finished at 6pm, drinking water until bed time. I had zero movement until 11.45pm! Do not panic if nothing happens for hours. After 3 spells to the loo it stopped and I was able to sleep until 530am getting ready for 6am start again with prep.
Sip over an hour with 2 litres of water and stop everything by 12pm.
Now this is where I struggled slightly. I was tripping off to loo every half hour and already by 9am I was passing the yellow water colour. I knew I was empty but my god so was my stomach! I was so bloody hungry. Water and juices were not cutting it and still hours to go. So I had a chicken stock cube in hot water and it hit the spot! Dont just have water and juice, you need something salty too.
2pm procedure completed. On my notes they said excellent bowel prep. I felt so proud! All clear of cancer but I do have spells of diverticulitis they said hence why my fit test was sky high!
This post is mainly to help people with the dreaded prep drink.
There was no way was I drinking litres of a salty mango drink
Citrafleet was nice! But you must drink lots of fluid afterwards
The hospital staff said, oh you had citrafleet, so I got the impression it is not offered a lot to patients. I get the feeling they think it doesnt work as well.
I am proof it does and I will say again, it tasted nice!!!!!!
