Breast lump - what could it be?

I’m currently 5 weeks pregnant. At the start of December I noticed a lump or more like a hard area on my left breast which appeared to go away. This morning I felt it again, it felt like a larger area this time and feels tender to touch. went to the gp and she’s referred me for further investigations- says it may take up to 2 weeks to hear from anyone! I’ve referred myself to a private clinic, hoping to get an appointment in the next few days. I’m so worried, made even worse by the fact I’m pregnant and going through this. Has anyone had a similar experience and have any idea what it could be? Obviously my minds going to worse case scenario but any reassurance on what else it could be. I’m 23 and expecting my second child.

Many women have benign cysts in their breasts, so that is a possibility. They are more common than malignant tumours. Your breasts also change when you're pregnant. 23 is young for a malignant tumour. For your mental wellbeing get it checked out but until then, tell yourself it's nothing to worry about. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in my 40s and the worry was worse than the treatment. All the best.
