Ciao , Hello , Welcome .

Oh rosa, I so know how you are feeling, the last get together is always bittersweet... Especially in pregnancy, I used to cry for the smallest thing. I hope you had a wonderful day with your family. Are your paernts coming in time for the birth?
And is your dd starting nursery in Sept? I'm sure she'll love it, she sounds so sociable and easy going from your posts.

Sputnik, yes, I find Italy is becoming classist (in a different way to the UK, mind you). At least, up until 20 yrs ago, there was the shared belief that by studying (and until then state schools were working very well, in general) anyone could better their conditions. Plus all the professions that until a few yrs ago (like being a teacher-nurse- impiegato etc) guaranteed a comfy lifestyle, don't anymore.

Having lived just in the west country I've never witnessed major episods of violence, though I felt quite intimidated by those all male (or all fermale) groups heading to the pub. I think the west country is quite sheltered, in Exeter there are the same social problems you can find in bigger city. Plus yes, I agree the Church in England is more tolerant and certainly is not interfeering with the State like the vatican does (grrrrr).

Gio, glad you had a lovely time in lake cmo. I used to go to lago maggiore as a child, and have been thinking of visiting again, out of nostalgia.......

francagoestohollywood · 01/09/2008 09:03

I meant there aren't

francagoestohollywood · 01/09/2008 09:04

Rosa, lets put it this way, you are coming just in time to have a glimpse on scamarvio at the festival

francagoestohollywood · 01/09/2008 09:05

rcio

Sputnik · 01/09/2008 11:10

But no one is guaranteed a comfy lifestyle anymore are they?

I remember reading before the election a young student asking Berlusconi what hope she could have for the future, and him responding, more or less, well, you're pretty, you could marry my son!

Rosa · 01/09/2008 12:18

HAd a lovely day - dd was very happy. Mum is coming over for the birth think I need a bit of help. DD should be starting on Sept 8th but have not had confirmation yet so it could be Sept 28th - I have paid the 1st installment so she should be going.
Packing is fun -NOT and to make it even better today is windy , and not warm so need 2 leayers on dd for flying domani we have to walk to the plane here and it could be gusty !

OP posts:
gio71 · 01/09/2008 12:53

what an arse Berlusca is!
Glad you had nice last day Rosa and good luck with packing. I hate that part. I always seem to manage to deposit items of ours in every room of my parents house and always end up forgetting things.
Am back again to UK in Sept for a week for best friends wedding. Went clothes shopping yesterday, got nice top and trousers from Zara. My staple wedding hat will no doubt get an airing much to dps disgust-he HATES the hat wearing thing . Then wont be back in UK til Jan at earliest which am quite glad about, looking forward to being in 1 place for a few months!
What are you doing re your Mum coming over Rosa? Is she coming around your due date or are you going to wait til action starts and then she hops on a plane?
Hope you have a good flight

francagoestohollywood · 01/09/2008 13:06

Yes, I remember that line from Berlusca! what an arsehole! And what a modern view on women!!! Plus it is we3ll known that his children from second marriage aren't getting married because they haven't agreed on how much heritance they will receive........ (gossip emoticon)

Rosa, glad you had a lovely day. I feel for you, I hate packing. I have done so much packing in the last 9 yrs that I loathe to even think about it.
My mum was in Exeter when dd was born and I was so glad. Before her my zia and then mil visited (mil missed the birth, she left one day before) and it was lovely as they helped with ds, plus, I like company

Gio,mmmmmmmm I'm so looking forward to having a whole morning to myself and have a good browsing at Zara. School starts on monday for ds. ot sure when dd is starting, she was booked for the inserimento on the 9th, but the beginning of scuola materna has been delayed, so I don't know when she'll start exactly. But she likes doing errands with me, while ds hates it, it's like going to the shops with a reluctant dog... (he is lovely, but can't stand still for a moment... I wonder how's going to be like at school...)

Rosa · 01/09/2008 17:47

Oh dear not enough space in the case and its my stuff sitting outside ..I don't have much mat wear as it is so am in abit of apickle!
Mum has booked flights she is coming a week before expected due date and staying for about 3 weeks after so that is really good . It is up to bump to decide when she arrives.
DD has a runny bum has pooed don't know how many times getting runnier each time and last one was sore bottom mummy.....Lets hope it was the fruit salad last night that she stuffed - but I dont think so as she eats lots of fruit as the norm .
Looks as if dd inserimento has also been delayed dh spoke to nido today .WIll learn more later.

francagoestohollywood · 01/09/2008 20:36

Oh dear!!! you def don't want a runny bum the day before travelling! I hope she'll be all right tomorrow, bless her!
Have a good trip tomorrow rosa

gio71 · 03/09/2008 16:30

did you get back ok Rosa? Hows dds bum?
Just caught ds brushing his teeth in the bidet

francagoestohollywood · 03/09/2008 16:49

lol lol lol gio! they all go though a phase of being devoted to the bidet. My bidet deprived children (we didn't have one when living in the UK), used to gather at the one in my mum's bathroom and splash like mad .

rosa are you back?

Sputnik · 03/09/2008 17:55

My DS discovered how to work the tap on the bidet the other day. He puts it full on, sprays himself and the entire bathroom then stands there crying until you turn it off.

Both mine use/used the bidet regularly for hand washing and teeth, no way am I lifting DS to the sink, he weighs over 13kg, but he's too short for the stool to reach the sink. I thought everyone did that

francagoestohollywood · 03/09/2008 18:06

Yes, sputnik, mine have done so. Ds has recently learnt how to "farsi un bidet" after pooing though

Sputnik · 03/09/2008 22:37

What's the trick Franca?
I recently asked DD if she would like to clean her own bottom. The answer was "no".

francagoestohollywood · 03/09/2008 22:53

Ds has started only recently. We kept "advising" him that he better start doing it before he started going to primary school. He refused for a long time. And then one day he did it! He's never looked back .
He is ready for school now! How old is your dd?

gio71 · 04/09/2008 06:29

Morning ladies, need your advice on something, apologies in advance for the TMI to follow this early in morning. I don't have residency in Italy because our git landlord has forbidden it due to fact contract is unregistered blah blah therefore am not registered with a doctor. Not been a massive problem up to now although not ideal as was able to have ds here due to eu health card thingy and go regularly back to uk where still have a gp.However have had a cyst (coughs uncomfortably and whispers) down below for ages, gp in uk checked it twice said nothing to worry about if doesnt give discomfort, which doesnt or rather didnt. I am currently in pain and have done the usual daft thing of googling (mistake, straight to worst case scenario) and mumsnetting it (reassurring, looks like a bartholin cyst which is infected so may need abs and possibly surgical removal if abs dont work). ANYWAY what I want to ask is - what should I do?? Am not due in uk til next fri and is getting too bloody painful to leave plus dont like the idea of letting an infection go untreated for so long. Cant go to docs as explained. Any ideas?? Do you reckon would be able to see a private gyno without residency? Alternatively are they likely to throw me out if go to pronto soccorso under pretence that in Italy for a few weeks only?
Sorry to greet you with this at breakfast but pain was bad enough to wake me up at 4 this morning and couldnt get back to sleep

Rosa · 04/09/2008 07:30

Gio you are entitled to treatment irrelevant of residency honestly I have been through this.private or on the state.
I would suggest you call your local USL they will be clear on what you have to do and its simple regarding eqv treatment ( imagine you are a person on holiday and you get ill - you get treated!) However as you say you are in pain I would call a private gyne and go - It will probably cost round Eu -100.Nobody will give a toss where you live !
In the past and I am going back a few years I went to the USL with my E111 ( free from post office - you can get it faxed over) and I got a libretto that was valid a year I registered with a doc as a temp patient and trotted along with this book and I had my prescriptions written on that and paid less but had all through the state. The process might have changed but you can get treatment on the state. You can also ( well you could) pay a voluntary contribution to cover your health care in Italy for a year I paid Lire 750 once - I went through all this and needed blood tests etc and thought hell I am not paying for this all privatley due to some stupid residency rules. Its the EEC for heavens sake - When I go to the UK I register with my local gp ( known him for years) and have all the treatment needed - just had all bloods, midwife , and my ongoing UTI not even a blip !)
However might I suggest you take residency at your FIL place ( and offer to pay the rubbish cost as thats the only charge ) or go for domicile which you should be able to do at your place as it doesn't give you squatting rights as residency does.
I also had a staff member who non resident saw a dermotolgist and needed day hospital treatment - the private doc ( as most do) was also in the hosp and she arranged day hospital and nobody even asked to see her E111 they just took passport details.
GET ON THE PHONE and GET IT SORTED !!!
Come back if you get stuck send me yr e mail addy and will e mail you so if you need anything else shout !

OP posts:
gio71 · 04/09/2008 08:08

thanks Rosa. I had no idea I could still get treatment as non resident! Why is it so bloody complicated here!! Would the quickest way to get treated to be to go to pronto soccorso do u think and say am over visiting and in pain, just take my passport?
If not think will just go private so can seen quickly as is SO BLOODY PAINFUL!

Rosa · 04/09/2008 08:55

Its up to you - They will see you in pronto socc as they have to it might be better as if they need to do any tests then they can do it right there. But not being in the medical sector would not like to say
A private gyne would be able to treat you in the surgery only - Do you have a recc one that you could call?
If you are in pain I would go for the quickest and nearest option !!!
Lots of people are in Italy say on long breaks - at uni , posted workers etc all who do not have residency. They live in accom that does not permit them to have it but it does not mean they are not entitled to medical treatment.
Let us know how you get on .....

Sputnik · 04/09/2008 10:04

Gio, what Rosa says.
I can give you the number of my private gynae in Rome if you like, she is very nice. She is in San Giovanni, not far from the metro.

francagoestohollywood · 04/09/2008 11:27

Gio, I hope you are sorting this out as we speak, it sounds really painful.
Second what Rosa said. Also you can def get temporary ASL gp for one yr as a non resident.

I have a cold, annoying.

rosa how was the trip back?

Rosa · 04/09/2008 12:27

Gio how you doing ?
Trip back was ok -Airlines were good and helpful. Thankfully neither flight was full.
DD poo turned to wee every 20 mins ( no joke apart from when she slept for an hour). So I had backache big time from lifting her constantly on and off loos. Think she had a minor infection as this carried on tues eve / wed she wanted to go almost constantly but nothing came!! Also at night her pull up pants soaked - normally if we get to her as she wakes up we can get them off dry !! It seems to have cleared up have been giving her a fairly bland diet and lots of water and we seem to be getting back to normal.
I knew a Finanza at the apt on arrival and he let Dh come in to sala and get luggage off carosel which was good.
Saw my doc yesterday dd2 is 12 days ahead size wise of what she should be that explains why I am huge. she is estimated 1kg600 so far and I have been banned from going to swim classes for a month - I should rest he says ! dd starts nido on Mon with 3 weeks of inserimento , new bedroom arriving on Thurs, then Ikea for rest of stuff needed- So am not sure when I should put my feet up.

francagoestohollywood · 04/09/2008 12:48

Oh poor little minirosa. Gland she's on the mend now.

Did you get a scan? I love scans, such a lovely feeling.

My cold is getting worse, my nose leaks all the time, and I'm trying to clean the flat, which is covered in evil dust. Plus it's umido and hot. (bad mood emoticon)

Brangelina · 04/09/2008 13:44

I'm very curious about how you know a Finanza chappie Rosa...... I used to have a very good policeman friend which came in handy at times, but am very at you having a GDF friend let your dh in at the airport.
