No idea? Sorry dodgy named lady

SenoraPostrophe · 23/01/2005 17:41

what does it connect with do you know?

HunkerMunker · 23/01/2005 17:41

I'd turn the PC off, then remove it.

wheresmyfroggy · 23/01/2005 17:41

Does the ipod appear on desktop or as an external drive in my computer folder? if so try right clicking it, you might get an option to unmount it there

DHhadABJfromAbangkokLADYboy · 23/01/2005 17:43

erm - not sure what you mean SP...it connects as a portable hard drive.
have been into control panel and said to show the task bar and it isn't showing it..you know the one I mean....bottom right of your desktop screen...the little green arrow.....the PC that it is connected to has no task bar...

and apparently, there is no way in the worl he will disconnect it without doing it properly
men

Not sure cause mainly use mac but if you switch pc off you may loose music stored on ipod.

DHhadABJfromAbangkokLADYboy · 23/01/2005 17:43

wheresmyfroggy - think that has been tried but I will ask....

Dos the Ipod have a tick on the LCD screen? If DHs Ipod mini has this, you can just unplug it.

DHhadABJfromAbangkokLADYboy · 23/01/2005 17:50

To confuse matters, it is actually an iRiver not an iPod....

Also in my computer, there is no option in the drop down list to eject!
ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH
sorry folks!
he is driving me crazy
it works on our pc but not on his mate's pc which has windows xp the same as ours

I meant is it firewire or USB - I always simply disconnect USB devices. But obvioulsy you want to be sure.

what version of windows is it?

SoupDragon · 23/01/2005 17:52

have an unexplained powercut that knocks out the power to your computer.

DHhadABJfromAbangkokLADYboy · 23/01/2005 17:52

it is usb connected i think....
and it is windows xp (our windows xp seems different to his though)
I always disconnect usb thingys without 'safely removing' but dh won't.....

iRiver? ooh cant help there

only suggestion is if pc has norton or any similar disk doctor/drive scanner software you could find the drive on that and unmount it

SenoraPostrophe · 23/01/2005 17:53

Have you tried right clicking on the start menu or task bar, selecting properties and having a dig around in there?

Allegra · 23/01/2005 17:54

I got a new Ipod for Christmas and had trouble the first time I used it. I think the manual said if it doesn't list ipod in the source menu on the left hand side ( on the PC)it was safe to just disconnect. Thats what I did and its working fine.( It still said do not disconnect on the little ipod screen) Hope that makes sense.

DHhadABJfromAbangkokLADYboy · 23/01/2005 18:03

tried all obviuos stuff that has been mentioned...it has been working fine on our pc for the last week...but now at his mate's house it won't work. And his mate is reasonably tecky too.

Anyway - think I have persuaded him to restart the pc leaving the iRiver whatsit connected (it isn't disconnected unsafely is it )

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 23/01/2005 19:36

Oh just disconnect it - he's not there, he won't notice.

SenoraPostrophe · 23/01/2005 19:40

agree - just disconnect.

The worst that could happen would be you'd lose some files, buty presumably you have them elsewhere?

DHhadABJfromAbangkokLADYboy · 23/01/2005 19:46

disconnected
all is fine
thanks
