Hemiplegia

I have been meaning to write this for so many years and am finally getting round to it. I just wanted to give a bit of hope to those parents whose children have been diagnosed with hemiplegia. My daughter who is now 15 was diagnosed with hemiplegia at the age of 2 through a MRI. This was after we noticed her only using one hand and she had started walking in a very strange limping way. As all parents are when we found out we were devestated. Particularly as we had no idea what the future held. Fast forward 15 years. She has had 3 leg operations (2 to lengthen her calf muscle and 1 to stop one leg growing while the other one caught up as she had a leg length difference). These operations transformed her. You would now no longer know that there was anything even wrong with her. I know we are lucky in many many ways. Her learning and behaviour weren’t affected and although her hand is affected it’s not noticeable. I know so much we are blessed by the fact that she has it mildly but I just wanted to give parents who have just had a diagnosis some hope that things really can improve. ❤️
