...are those dependent on state benefits still subsisting on the same paltry weekly allowance?

As a lone parent I have been in work and out of work from time to time, sometimes supported by Tax Credits, other times dependent upon Income Support. The money never really stretches far enough, but how on EARTH are we supposed to survive if everything is now costing more.

An annual review isn't good enough. My weekly costs are rising and rising, from week to week pretty much, so if my allocated benefit is the minimum I need to live on in April, and prices have risen since then, how am I supposed to be surviving in June?

Anyone else REALLY struggling- more than ever?

zippitippitoes · 09/06/2008 13:51

unless you lived in a hall of residence or something

zippitippitoes · 09/06/2008 13:52

i am disappointed i thought the crock of gold was going to appear

TigerFeet · 09/06/2008 13:53

I used to work in a lab - couldn't have done that at home obv

But now I proof read food labels and approve them for content/legality etc and I could do that on the moon so long as there was an internet connection

When I was working at home I used to get a lot more done as there weren't the distractions there are in the office.

MN still there for distraction though

tiredemma · 09/06/2008 13:53

what are phoenix cards?
Would I get more than Minimum wage and not have to wipe bums??

zippitippitoes · 09/06/2008 13:54

no but they are things that you can take your children with you to do.

database cleansing is updataing a companies customer database with correct contact details. it is a piss easy

audio typing - u need a foot pedal thats all.

take the piss if you like but I made 25k after tax last year doing these things.

PeachyWontLieToYou · 09/06/2008 13:55

I think it would be harder to work from home than not tbh! Can you imagine in the holidays with 2 asd kids climbing everywhere...... . It was hard enough studying!

Which is why dhhas 2 jobs, poor lad, it's slowly killing him I swear

tiredemma · 09/06/2008 13:55

maybe I should just sell my arse

zippitippitoes · 09/06/2008 13:56

tiredemma - have a look at teltech.co.uk. There are some great virtual assistant opportunities there that you can do from home.

zippitippitoes · 09/06/2008 13:57

foot pedal? you mean you dont have to be able to type?

im not taking the piss

Sunshine78 · 09/06/2008 13:57

Can I just say as an employeed person- I pay enough in taxes and any more and I wouldn't be able to make ends meet so why should I pay for someone to have a basic TV pacake (luxary) I have the free TV and that is it - surley thats enough channels for anyone? Also internet access is limited to works computer again saving another cost (dont libaries offer free/cheap access?) Also my DH taked a pay cut in order to keep his employees in work. I firmly believe if you want to work you can I know of several people who work from home and fit their hours in around the children one person I know gets up at 4.30 to work before kids wake - its tough for her but she needs the money.

I'm sorry but as a tax payer I'm sick of paying more taxes to support people who cant work. I've had to fit my job round my child care so it is not impossible!! Perhaps instead of posting here all day the time could be spent working? Not aimed at anyone person just in general.

zippitippitoes · 09/06/2008 13:57

so run through how you get work data base cleansing

conniedescending · 09/06/2008 14:01

sorry tiredemma - its teletech.....goto www.hirepoint.com/athome

better than 5.52 per hr

zippitippitoes · 09/06/2008 14:01

i did do that any question answered job but the pay worked out at about 50p an hour

zippitippitoes · 09/06/2008 14:05

what are the "ability to pass technical requirements" on that teletech thing connie

conniedescending · 09/06/2008 14:06

zippi - you offer to cleanse the database of a company for either a set price or per call. Then you add on your phone costs to the price.

You would basically phone every person on their database and check the contact name, address, email etc and update/ amend/ add as necessary.

Client then has a nice uptodate database to use for marketing purposes.

zippitippitoes · 09/06/2008 14:07

what hapens when people dont answer or have answerphones..dont you end up with a lot of no shows..do you just cross them off

nailpolish · 09/06/2008 14:08

you phone people to ask to "check the contact name, address, email etc"

if anyone clled to ask me that id tell them to get stuffed (!)
