My 3 year old daughter needed some trainers/ plimpsoles for her nursery sports day. I worked it out that she'd only ware them 6 times before the end of term, as she has a gym lesson once a week.
I'd decided for this reason to buy her some pumps for £8 rather than £26 for trainers.
We went in to clarks and as soon as she saw these pink trainers she was soo excited. They were sparkly, light up ones. She held on to it while her feet were measured, but I stuck to my guns and bought her the pumps. She is always a little poppet and she sadly put the trainer back without a fuss when it was time to go.
I just feel so meen. Should I have bought them for her?

No,I think you did the right thing.Sometimes we all have to learn we can't always get what we want.(Thats what I tell ds anyhow!)

No way. She probably really enjoyed them in the shop more than she would in real life.

Why don't you take her out for some special treat or buy her a little something else? Or get her some lovely sandals? Reward her a bit I reckon.

It's perverse but when the children meekly accept that you say, "No" to something, it is really hard not to just think, "Oh you lovely thing," and buy it for them anyway.

That is very true winkywinkola. She's always getting little "treats" for that reason. She knows how to pull the old heart strings.

She does seem quite happy with these pumps too though. I think they are more flexable than the trainers. They just need a few sequins and flashing lights.

She's probably forgotten about them by now.
