Tights with going out dresses

So, it's a looong time since I went anywhere I needed to wear something more dressy. I have a mid blue floral stretch velvet wrap dress which looks nice, that I can wear with peep toe blue court shoes. So far, so good. However, I have a dilemma. Do I wear tights? It's for a dinner at a hotel where we are staying so no need to leave the hotel and get cold. I feel out of touch.....is wearing tights old fashioned? If I do wear tights what colour should I wear? Thanks for any advice.

I know bare legs is supposed to be more fashionable, but the reality of bare legs in winter in the UK is goosebumpy, mottled, pale legs - surely a nude tight is better than looking like a plucked chicken, and being frozen to boot?!

That said, I don't like wearing tights with peeptoes, so I would probably choose a different shoe. You can also get sandal tights, which are toeless: Buy Nude Sandal Toe Sheer 5 Denier Tights from the Next UK online shop

Tights and a dress are fine especially in winter, tights and peep toe shoes are a no. That is an ageing look and very old fashioned. Could you change your shoes?

I've only got purple and brown court shoes that aren't peep toes and can't buy anything new. I have ankle boots and knee high boots but don't think they would look right with the type of dress. I have ballet flats in black as well.

if I wasn’t leaving the hotel I’d happily put on fake tan and wear the peep toes with no tights but I know that’s not for everyone!

What sort of fit is the dress?

sewlittletimetosew · 19/11/2025 18:38

@Coconutter24 it's very fitted and knee length

I was wondering if the ankle boots would match? I sometimes wear ankle boots with dresses, I haven’t tried them with a fitted dress though
