Hi everyone,

looking for recommendations to live as a young family in Sheffield. We are debating between grenoside and Ecclesfield and have heard mixed reviews about both! It’s the ideal location for my partners work so we’d like to be around that sort of area!
TIA x

My boss has just moved to Grenoside with his young family and really likes it. It’s been 20 years since I lived in Sheffield, but I’m not far, but I’d say Grenoside too.

Outibridge?

Where is your dh working!

Thank you!
He rotates around all the hospitals in sheffield, doncaster and Rotherham! We are currently living in Oughtibridge but much more expensive to buy here!

Bit of a wildcard, but Penistone? Are schools a consideration?

Schools are definitely a consideration! We thought Penistone, but everyone said if it snows you’re stuck basically! Although not sure how correct that is!

If schools are a consideration (especially secondary) I'd consider Penistone (and surrounding villages).
Re the snow it can sit for longer/be worse however once the roads are cleared we never really had much issue. Last school year we had one week which was affected. I would choose a few days of inconvenience (I think Ecclesfield had a couple of closure days the same week) for better schooling, lower council tax, cheaper housing.
Grenoside may me nice but theres nothing there, as your dc get older you'd be ferrying them about as nothing is local. Penistone has a cinema, train station, supermarket, petrol station, high street, library, lots of groups for all ages.

If schools are a consideration, move as close to Penistone Grammar as you can! It is an excellent school (I’ve been for open days, and work with several ex pupils, live just over the county boundary). As @Poortraitorsstarbe123says, Penistone is a pretty self contained town. The community owned leisure centre has a lot going on. Easy access to the M1, train to Sheffield.

Yeh, it snows, but realistically not for more than 4 or 5 days a year, and the same is true for those N Sheffield suburbs you’ve been looking at too.
