So here I am again, still no job, and not sure where to go or what to do next

Pretty sure that I posted a similar thread this time last year, and after that I ended up starting the access course again, and dropped out ^again. The less said about that the better.

So, a year on and I still have no job, despite applying for god knows how many, infact have only got to interview stage once.

I am seriously pissed off with looking and applying for jobs, and with having to go to the jobcentre all of the time just for them to tell me what I already know.

I said I'd give myself until the end of June to find something and then admit defeat and go to college instead, have even already applied for an admin course, but then I had an interview for a job in admin and couldn't believe how boring it sounded.

So, what shall I do ? I seem to keep going round and round in circles and somehow end up going backwards.

nurseries in this area definitely take people without nvqs tho you are espected to do them once you are there

you could try approaching nurseries direct and explaining you are looking for work and are keen to do nvqs

if you do that write your cv directed entirely towards that

Mercy · 06/06/2008 10:19

Have you thought about doing a short course with the OU?

Have a look at this one Open University - Understanding Children. You may well be eligible for help with the fee.

zippitippitoes · 06/06/2008 10:19

i have missed him but i dont think he has missed me

he has a life which is why i havent seen him

the trouble is i am living om my own, i only have college now two days and i don't see anyone

IllegallyBrunette · 06/06/2008 10:21

I have done exactly that Zippi. Tbh alot of the nurseries I spoke to just seemed to think it plain odd that I was even asking, and they all said that they opnly offered training places to under 25's because of the funding for the nvq.

I emailed a place that does adult apprenticeships yesterday. They are too far from me but thought they might know of someone nearer that does them. No reply though.

I honestly feel like giving up and not bothering anymore tbh. I'm beginning to think it must be something I am doing wrong.

Thanks Mercy, having a look now.

I bet he did miss you really Zippi. I am like you though, I coud go for days and days not seeing anyone except my mum.

Had to sit through d2's assembly with xp this morning, perhaps thats what has put me in a bad mood LOL.

you and me both nutty

i have a few more weeks of this course to go tho i am having serious doubts about my abuility to complete it

then i dont know what the answer is

and as i am waiting to see a psychiatrist that in itself doesnt help with my employability

IllegallyBrunette · 06/06/2008 10:27

Can they ask you about your mental health though ?? Thought it wasn't allowed.

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 06/06/2008 10:28

they can on application forms

tho in theory like with age they cant discriminate

of course who in the work place doesnt discriminate

nailpolish · 06/06/2008 10:30

nutty look at this

you can work WHEN you want WHERE you want and the money is pretty good. you get annual leave pay, training, you can work a different ward every shift or get 3 months in one place, a year in another. its so flexible youd be surprised. its basic care that i know you can do.

please think about it, i hate seeing you so fed up

nailpolish · 06/06/2008 10:32

nutty if you tel me where yo live i can help you look for jobs

if you want that is, i wont be offended if you tell me to f off

cat me if you prefer

zippitippitoes · 06/06/2008 10:33

i think having someone else help is good

i have helped my kids get jobs

and my dd1 is going to help me

unfortunately she doesnt entirely appreciate my needs but she is darn good at job applications

IllegallyBrunette · 06/06/2008 10:37

Just going to look at your link now Naily. Thing is, I don't want to do adult care at all really. Only really want children or gynea/maternity.

At my local hospital you can go on the bank and just request childrens and maternity, but because they can't garuntee the number hours a week I would miss out on the back to work grant etc.

I live in Sutton Coldfield.

Zippi - That section on application forms really annoys me, because I have to single, and they alreay know I have kids because i have to explain why i have such a gap in jobs. So then they know I am a single mum and i think it does go against me.

zippitippitoes · 06/06/2008 10:39

i think perhaps you might have to miss out on the back to work grant if it prevents you going back to work or doing a job you would like to do

nailpolish · 06/06/2008 10:41

nutty, once you get established with nhs professionals you can get long term contracts with a specific place, you just get your foot in the door and get to know the ward sister and work really hard and make damn sure she knows you are working hard in her ward and then ask her if she can offer you the shifts before they go out.

i had been working in one ward i really like, i got to know the staff and now i have a 12 month contract to cover someones maternity leave. but i STILL get to choose what nights i work.

i KNOW adult care is shit but you can get work in places like out patients (where yo udont ever have to wipe an old mans hairy arse) or paeds or theatre or EVEN the community (id recommend that)

pleae try it

IllegallyBrunette · 06/06/2008 10:42

I can't zippi, it is too much. A one off £250, and £40 a week on top of whatever I earn, tax free for the first year.

im sorry for being a bit bossy

i know youre not feeling to well just now

have to go and get some housework done

np xx

zippitippitoes · 06/06/2008 10:43

pretend you didnt know about it

IllegallyBrunette · 06/06/2008 10:43

Our hospital does have an ad for bank HCA's at the mo, but it says you must have 6mths recent experience, so I am not sure how I can get in without that.

Everywhere seems so hot on experience and qualifications now, no one is prepared to give anyone a chance.

OP posts:
IllegallyBrunette · 06/06/2008 10:44

I can't zippi, they tell me about it every time I go the job centre.

OP posts:
nailpolish · 06/06/2008 10:45

nutty it says that in job adverts for our hospital and then i see new starts who have no experience but are dead keen

im really going now

IllegallyBrunette · 06/06/2008 10:48

Thanks naily, you have been a real help

Just managed to find a company in Brum who apparently organise Adult Apprenticeships, so have filled in their enquiry form.

OP posts:
IllegallyBrunette · 06/06/2008 11:48

Right, have cancelled jobcentre appointment, going next week instead.

Lady on the phone asked me if I'd heard about the job and I told her I didn't get it and she was really lovely which nearly made me cry.

Think I am just in a blubbing mood today.

So, now sat here doing nowt when I feel like I should be doing something useful.

zippitippitoes · 06/06/2008 12:08

tiredemma · 06/06/2008 18:27

[[http://www.publicservicecompact.org/pages/home_page/apprenticeships.aspx adult apps ]

they came into my placement last week- they do adult apprenticships- Think they do all the Trusts in Bham (inc Childrens hospital) and other Public sector jobs.

think its quite a new thing
