So here I am again, still no job, and not sure where to go or what to do next

Pretty sure that I posted a similar thread this time last year, and after that I ended up starting the access course again, and dropped out ^again. The less said about that the better.

So, a year on and I still have no job, despite applying for god knows how many, infact have only got to interview stage once.

I am seriously pissed off with looking and applying for jobs, and with having to go to the jobcentre all of the time just for them to tell me what I already know.

I said I'd give myself until the end of June to find something and then admit defeat and go to college instead, have even already applied for an admin course, but then I had an interview for a job in admin and couldn't believe how boring it sounded.

So, what shall I do ? I seem to keep going round and round in circles and somehow end up going backwards.

are the going back to work enhancements that good..maybe a job would soon make up for it and in terms of your personal health and development?

i would get a second opinion on your cv i dont think the job cenbtre is necessarily the best place

private agencies have different and more clued up ideas and better jobs usually

zippitippitoes · 05/06/2008 12:22

and if you can get ajob through someone you know putting a word in then do it and dont mess around that is how most people get started

why say no?

IllegallyBrunette · 05/06/2008 12:27

I dunno zippi, I think I just feel like I failed if someon got me in. I never seem to achieve anything myself.

There is a course in childcare which I originally wanted to do when I left school, that I could still do now, it is specifically designed for mature students, and is a very detailed course and after passing it, it can be used to gain entry into nursing/teaching etc.

Only thing is, it is 2 years long.

Nearest perivate hospital is a bit far away and in the middle of nowhere.
Ads for there always state 'car driver required, due to location'.

my dd1 is going to write my cv she did dd2s and ds as well as her own and she has always had her applications checked by someone in the know for a job

they need to be geared to each job really

and things left out or put in

zippitippitoes · 05/06/2008 12:30

well two years is nothing at your age and as you know time passes quick

i am thinking of doing an ma or something in september if i dont sort out some work it is better than standing still

i am going to do the temp thing

and there is NO SHAME IN GETTING SOMEONE TO PUT A WORD IN EVERYONE DOESIT

AMumInScotland · 05/06/2008 12:48

If your mum got you an interview, you'd still have to show them you were up to the job, so there's nothing wrong in that. Someone having a word is just like getting a reference, but a bit earlier in the process.

IllegallyBrunette · 05/06/2008 12:48

What actually is a MA, I have always wondered ?

What would be ideal for me is an apprenticship, but I am too old for those as they are only funded up to 25. I did find something about Adult Apprenticships yesterday but they don't run anywhere near me at all.

is there anyway you take some rubbishy job in say, maccyd's pt and do childcare pt? or what about registering to be a childminder? you get grants for that and childcare in my area as places are so limited but i dont know what it is like in other areas.

i have an nvq2 in admin and still find it difficult to get anything above trainee office junior and the wages for that are rubbish. admin jobs require you to have it and word processing qualifications too. and yes it is very very boring.

imo you would better off taking what you can for now and training in something that interests you at college, or open uni in child development or something. that way you egt out of immediate financial difficulty but know that you are working towards what you actually want rather than being stuck in a job you hate because you are too skint to leave.

i am doing something similiar, me and dp have decided that my dream to go uni would be very impractical when it comes to childcare and travel arrangements, but instead of letting it get me down i have applied to do the degree i want at open uni and while i am doing i will be doing a part college course in fitness instruction so after 1 year i can get a better job while studying to help get us out of the financial trouble we are in now.

and i have just applied for a pt job in a pizza shop to help in the meantime. i realise that i am taking a lot on as i am the one who is responsible for the childcare and cleaning etc but it will be worth it by the end.

IllegallyBrunette · 05/06/2008 13:10

I would micci, and have indeed applied for loads of shop jobs etc, but again I never get to interview.

sorry all i can suggest then is just keep trying and study something pt while you are looking i am sure something will come along eventaully. and keep asking around if anyone knows of anything that is coming up where they work. a lot of places recruit from reccomendations.

AMumInScotland · 05/06/2008 13:15

Is there anywhere you could work as a volunteer in something relevant (or even not relevant)? That can help on the cv when you've not been working for a while - some people don't think being a mother involves that many skills which are relevant to work

nailpolish · 05/06/2008 13:52

2 years is nothing at your age

IllegallyBrunette · 06/06/2008 10:06

Morning all, feeling really really shite today, just so fed up with it all.

Just done my daily job search and found a total of zero jobs to apply for. Supposed to be off to the jobcentre later to discuss the interview I had last week. What they think there is to discuss I don't know, I didn't get the job.

Might cancel, as am really not in the mood to have what I might have done/said picked apart.

zippitippitoes · 06/06/2008 10:07

have you tried any other agencies

zippitippitoes · 06/06/2008 10:07

and sorry you are feeling crap

zippitippitoes · 06/06/2008 10:08

put some smart interview clothes on and go and visit some places klike workworld and addecco

IllegallyBrunette · 06/06/2008 10:08

I search a few agencies near to me. Trouble is, it has to be a permanent job and alot of them are temp.

Just feeling like such a failure today. Dunno why. Birthday is looming, perhaps it is that.

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 06/06/2008 10:10

i think they usually have both and dont forget you are employed by the agency not the employer you go to so surely that is not temp necessarily

go in and tell them you are looking for work

dress smartly

zippitippitoes · 06/06/2008 10:11

oh my birthdya was last friday

it was shit

i am now just coming up to the first anniversary of being dumped

and i still miss kiers

IllegallyBrunette · 06/06/2008 10:11

Not sure i can do that today Zippi, i'd be in danger of crying on them tbh.

My IBS is playing up again which isn't helping as it makes me anxious, which in turn makes my IBS worse.

OP posts:
IllegallyBrunette · 06/06/2008 10:12

Oh I didn't know it was your birthday. Happy Belated Birthday

IllegallyBrunette · 06/06/2008 10:15

I registered with a child care agency last week and they were lovely but basically said that they wouldn't be able to find me anything without me having an nvq or similar.

OP posts:
IllegallyBrunette · 06/06/2008 10:15

Awww have you missed him ?
