Does anyone have any experience of selling stuff at auction? I've accumulated a lot of things that I can't house - eg antique glasses, pictures (I've no idea if they're prints or worth something), silver etc.
I think the logical thing to do is to send them to an auction house - but I worry that I might pick the wrong one (is that a thing?) How can I be sure that the auction house I send them to will get as good a price as another one? I can feel my mother looking down on my from heaven, utterly appalled that I'm selling her stuff so the least I can do is get a good price!
My local auction house (Lewes) has said 'Bring us your stuff and we'll look at it and tell you what's worth us selling' but is that the right thing to do or should I schlep around different places for each item.... Help! Any advice would be massively appreciated.
(don't get me started on what on earth I'm going to do with massive bits of brown wood furniture....)
