Just wondering if anyone can help, how much do they take for a non dependent when on universal credits ? I've read all different things, I have 2 adult children who live with me, one at 24 who is going to be changing jobs with a higher wage and a 20 year old who will be starting full time work, does it depend on there income on how much the deduction from my uc will be it's all confusing.
Thank you

Yes, the deduction from Universal Credit for a non-dependent usually depends on their income. The higher the income of an adult child living with you, the more it may reduce the amount of UC you receive. The system takes into account the income of all adults in the household when calculating your entitlement.
It’s best to use the official Universal Credit calculator on the gov.uk website or contact your local support office for an accurate estimate based on their actual earnings.

It will only affect the housing element of your UC Op. a deduction of £90 odd pounds is taken off for each non dependent. It doesn’t matter how much they earn. Adults in a household are expected to contribute towards their rent. You need to ask your sons to pay their way.
