What house could you buy where you live for £160,000?

We're thinking of selling our house. After having a look at a few in our price range I am bit dissapointed - would probably have to spend £200,000 to get what I want.

£160,000 is our price range but all we can get is ver small 3 bed semi or a run down victorian terraced house. Nothing stunning. Very average. Certainly nothing in the 'desirable' areas of town for this price range.

We're in Harrogate. Would be intersted to see what we could get for our money in other ares of UK.

I'm in Harrogate

I can HIGHLY recommend www.righmove.co.uk - more uptodate than fish4 and covers more agents than vebra. In Wellingborough you can get quite a lot for £160,000 - a 'new' 3 bedroom semi detached. We got our Victorian 3 bedroom, end of terrace, pretty nice area, RIGHT next to a school (we share our garden wall with the school), close to town, other schools within close range for £120k last August.

Depends on which area of Sheffield you buy, as there are big differences.

You can get a reasonable sized 2 bed apartment, within a few miles of the city centre for £160. A city centre one like mine would be about £180-£190.

2 bed detached in average location

3 bed terrace or semi in an area closish to town, good area, reasonable-good school

In a less good area you could get more for your money. For example there's a 2 bed semi in a "not so nice" area at all for £65k

There are no real bad areas here too

You could buy my house, a two-bed terraced house on a park or a 3-bed semi.

BigGayDad · 20/01/2005 21:53

Large three bedroom semi on our estate

Harrysmom · 20/01/2005 21:55

Just a flat I think, 2 bed at most (Brighton) Prices are terrible here

A modern three bedroom detached family home that is situated in a popular location, with in walking distance to schools and town centre amenities. The property has a garage and driveway, gas central heating, kitchen dining area, lounge, three bedrooms and family bathroom too. No onward chain.
Wiltshire

2 bed terrace with front door right on street and tiny back yard - in not the nicest part of town but not bad.

Gobbledigook · 20/01/2005 22:00

Oh sorry, that's in S/Manchester, Cheshire.

Nantwich, Cheshire is a lovely town. Lots of new build, great shops, leisure centre, good schools. Still affordable homes too.
