Gravesend for young families

Hello everyone,

My husband and I are looking to buy our first home, we can’t afford buying in London and we are considering Gravesend as a potential option as it’s affordable and the houses are lovely.

We’re trying to start a family and were wondering if anyone lives there and how do they find it? In terms of safety, schools, parks, and general activities for kids.

We only went there once briefly and the town centre looked quite run down but would be very helpful to hear from families who live there.

Diversity is also really important for us as my husband is Jamaican, as well as finding a place where we can build community.

Thank you in advance!

I live about 20 minutes from gravesend but work nearby, as with most places there’s good and bad areas , the town centre as you say is pretty dire , but you’re 10 minutes from bluewater shopping centre & plenty of supermarkets nearby .
Riverview is probably the nicest area , but would assume a little more expensive.
No problem with diversity , although has a high Indian/ Pakistani population rather than black in my experience but don’t think you’d have any problems .

There’s leisure centres , parks all close by , haven’t got young children personally but work colleagues have & they have good social lives regarding activities .
