Ensuring "ladygarden" freshness...

dontwanttosmell · 29/05/2008 16:38

Have to travel a lot, and in the warm weather, well, the ladygarden isn't exactly a bed of roses.

Any advice?
I already:
shower in the morning before setting off;
wear cotton underwear;
use pantyliners, changed frequently;
have checked that I don't have an infection.

Have had mixed advice re use of feminine washes/wipes.

Any help appreciated.

There are bad smells and good smells. The human body is supposed to smell, in my opinion. It is only bad, stale smells that are a problem.

llareggub · 29/05/2008 16:46

Trying to make you feel better. Is it better/worse at varying times of your cycle?

LyraSilvertongue · 29/05/2008 16:49

Use baby wipes instead of loo roll.

dontwanttosmell · 29/05/2008 16:57

doesn't vary at times of cycle. More to do with being hot and sweaty in a warm area, I think.... I have had some feminine wipes, which I've been using instead of loo roll, and a spray, but some people say they're not good for you (and don't make a difference IME)

The more artificial stuff you use, the more your body will rebel. Wash properly (evenings as well as mornings if necessary); change your underwear during the day if necessary; avoid panty liners... they keep smells etc in as they hav moisture proof backing and will keep things warm and damp and so create breeding ground for bacteria; "feminine" washes/ wipes are a bad thing: the body cleans its own orifices eg ear wax and so just need to wash, not sterilise and kill the good bacteria. The big thing you may need to consider is wearing hold ups/ stockings rather than tights..

What's with the term "lady garden"?!

DarthVader · 29/05/2008 17:00

Bikini wax would help in hot weather

agree re tights...

LyraSilvertongue · 29/05/2008 17:09

She's probably not wearing tights in hot weather.
I don't think unscented baby wipes do any harm.

dontwanttosmell · 29/05/2008 17:32

I don't wear tights.
Am "waxed and trimmed"!
Only started using feminine washes to see if it helped, will go back to just water, but do wash every morning and evening if needed, but can't wash during the day when travelling/working which is when it's at it's worst. Not too bad when just sitting in the office. Hadn't thought about panty liners being a bad thing, just thought I could change them more frequently than pants.
What a thread, but thanks all for your help.

Wouldn't pantyliners defeat the purpose of cotton undies?

Can't go wrong with a nice trim down there in warm weather.

Use condoms (if you're in the position to be having sex with a bloke!) Seriously, they are our main form of birth control (and always was mine before dh) and it does appear to be sometimes smell unpleasant down there 1-3 days or so after sex without one. I just imagine dead sperm dropping out

Finally, do you really smell? Or are you getting a bit of an obsession about it? This happened to me once and dh said all was fine!!

vermilion · 29/05/2008 17:34

If it's that bad maybe you do in fact have an infection?
Worth getting that checked out??

Piffle · 29/05/2008 17:37

I wash/ shower in morning. If hot or busy day I spray a little jo Malone or clarins eau dynamisante onto fuzz area and inner thighs. That way every waft is delightful.

Piffle · 29/05/2008 17:38

Actually at school run time many mums say " ooh you smell lovely today" and then I know its worked

vermilion · 29/05/2008 17:39

I love Eau Dynamisante but will never be able to sniff it again without thinking of your fanjo freshness, Piffle

dontwanttosmell · 29/05/2008 17:41

definitely no infection, been checked. Maybe it is just me, but I don't have a very good sense of smell and still get a waft. We don't use condoms as DH had a vasectomy so can't see him being very happy about that suggestion!
OK, well maybe I'm just worrying about nothing, but don't want other people thinking I smell when I am a very clean person!

LOL Piffle!

Your odour changes as you get older too..
I use aqueous cream to wash down in the garden area. It's cleansing, but not harsh which fragrance free wipes often are as very often, they contain alcohol.

LuckyStrike · 01/06/2008 09:46

UCM....is that you?

SmugColditz · 01/06/2008 09:51

cotton knickers, flouncy cotton skirt, shave your pubes off and wash there twice a day.

DON'T use panty liners, all they do is trap the smells and sweat in there!

foxinsocks · 01/06/2008 09:54

I think you need to take part in an independent smell test

get dh to have a whiff and see what he thinks

maybe you have a problem with your sinuses and your sense of smell is off

or maybe it's your feet?
