Help us name DH's company

Ok, this is not the first and certainly won't be the last post requesting help for DH's new company, but please bear with me, hope you don't get board.

Anyway, we thought we had come up with a good name but DH is wavering so we would love your ideas.

Basically there are different ways you can name your company (e.g. your name) or the two that we are considering are a descriptive name (e.g. Premier Photography, Wedding Photography, British Telecom or one that is on here Nipper Snappers - brilliant) or a completely random name (e.g. Amazon, Orange Mobile). We are veering between these two styles. So the business is photography, specialising in babies/children/families (but not exclusively), aiming at the middle class afluent market in our area.

The vision DH wants to evoke with the name is professionalism, but family friendly. He thinks light is important in photography, and his style is natural, unposed, candid lifestyle photography, ideally in an outdoor setting.

Importantly it has to be fairly unique and we need to be able to get a fairly top level domain for it. The name that he was considering is Starfish Photography (i.e. totally random) but he doesn't think it is catchy or professional enough.

That was a really long post but hopefully enough to be getting on with! Fill yer boots

Going with the fishy theme, you could include mumsnet and call it cod photography

Not even funny but I thought I could bump it for you

Lcy · 28/05/2008 20:21

Hello - so excited for you both

PuppyDogTails · 28/05/2008 20:23

I agree with your DH in Starfish.

Will think...

jalopy · 28/05/2008 20:24

I'm sure you've trawled through all the photographic terms such as:

Soft focus
Aperture
Zoom
Flash

LadyJogsAlot · 28/05/2008 20:24

Prism Photography

snowleopard · 28/05/2008 20:25

Family focus?

Lcy · 28/05/2008 20:25

I am totally lacking in creativity so cant think of a name. However, i think a name like nippersnapper is great because it is funky but also tells the consumer what the product is!

Teuch · 28/05/2008 20:25

Play on the 'light' aspect? Look at different words for light (alba, blanca, luminence? sp?!!)

Aspects Photography

Capture Photography

(Carpe Diem? - too pretentious?)

hmmmmmmm....

whomovedmychocolate · 28/05/2008 20:26

Little snappers.

PussinJimmyChoos · 28/05/2008 20:26

Mmm....

Going with the light theme....lights that are outside...makes me think of the Northern Lights...Aurora (sp!!) photography?

Precious Moments...(or is that too cheesy??)

I'll keep thinking...

Lcy · 28/05/2008 20:27

I like little snappers

PussinJimmyChoos · 28/05/2008 20:29

WMMC - can you haul arse to my thread in House/DIY and give me some much needed advice please - Mwah!!!

I like little snappers.....

But obv my suggestion is best!!

whomovedmychocolate · 28/05/2008 20:30

I'm thinking green t shirts with crocs on for the kids when they visit as part of a package. Could be a real selling point, make it a kid focused thing, affluent parents love the idea of it being a treat for the kids rather than a self indulgent showing off of their brood (which is what it is)

You could even get little crocs suspending on the ceiling on lines and fly them down to get the kids to look in the right direction (can you tell I qualified in photography before realising landscapes were much easier to cope with than people?)

PuppyDogTails · 28/05/2008 20:31

What about going for a foreign word, something random that sounds nice.

Lumiere
Etoile

jojosmaman · 28/05/2008 20:37

Not hugely keen on Starfish but can't think of anything at the moment! Will get the cogs oiled and come back....

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 28/05/2008 20:38

Great suggestions everyone,

Capture is fab, but just googled and quite common, the domain name is going to be v important.

Little Snappers is also great, but perhaps limiting, as though he will probably specialise in children he doesn't want to limit it.

All the one's that you would think of are all fairly common, we liked Blink and Cheese, both common.

Following the light theme is an idea we had but lacked ideas (don't let that limit you, we'll consider anything). Aurora is great but a mouthful (actually I wanted Aurora for DD but DH was worried she might have a speech impediment and only be able to say Aworwa .)

Precious Moments is perhaps a bit too cheesy, and family focus is good but DH said "Family Circle" or reminds him of "Family Choice" biscuits.

Nipper Snappers has got to be the best though! Shame it's already taken.

keep 'em coming, you are all brill

He could combine it with glamour photography and it could be slappersnappers?

I like little snappers.

whomovedmychocolate · 28/05/2008 20:40

The Cheese Farm

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 28/05/2008 20:41

LOL WMMC, don't they say never work with children and animals! Great marketing ideas (why aren't you doing it yourself?!) but he doesn't want pigeon hole himself too much.

OP posts:
snowleopard · 28/05/2008 20:42

I like the idea of light and nature, especially as photographers at the moment seem to all be doing those overexposed harsh-looking trendy posed shots.

Natural Light
True to Nature
The Real You
Catching the Light
Inner Light?

PussinJimmyChoos · 28/05/2008 20:42

Blue Sky Photography.....

mybrainaches · 28/05/2008 20:43

We dont say cheese in our house, we say sausages.
so how about.......sausage photography

snowleopard · 28/05/2008 20:44

Cheese Slice - that's what DS says for a photo!

whomovedmychocolate · 28/05/2008 20:44

Sausage photography sounds a bit oo-er missus

Oh and I run my own company bumper, but am constantly pregnant so don't get any time to be creative these days
